K6-2/500 only running at 250mhz... HELP!

I have a gigabyte ga-5ax motherboard with the jumpers set at 5*100. For some reason, although it shows the speed being 500mhz when it first begins to boot up, when I get into win2k the speed is only showing up as 250. I've double checked the jumpers and have the latest bios (fa3). I've also run some diagnostics which also show the mhz as 250. These tests show that the multiplier is 5, so the bus speed is getting cut in half (to 50) somehow. This is also supported when I run a memory diagnostic and get results half of what they should be. If anyone has any ideas or bios settings I can try I'd be greatful. thanks.

I just doubled check and I do have the latest bios. After I flashed the bios, I just chose to load the bios defaults. Is there any option in the bios that could cause this problem? So screwed.

I know you said you checked, but let's be absolutely positive. You DIP switches are set (1-8) at XOOXOXXX, and jumpers JP7 through JP10 are at 1-2, 1-2, 2-3, 1-2, right?

I'm not seeing anything in the BIOS setup which would address the problem.
