Looking at this specific species of pentax, the only extra feature seemed to be some kind of dust removing mechanism. Does anyone have experience with this extra feature at all? Does it make that much of a difference?

^_^ Thanks

edit

sorry about the error

anyways thanks - here ia review i found while reading:

http://pixinfo.com/en/articles/ccd-dust-removal/

apparantly the only system that was worth anything was olympus :p

then let me ask: what is USM? I find SOME stuff that explains it...but honetsly I'm not understanding what it does for the camera specifically :p

The best I found was that "ring usm" was good because you could manual focus in auto focus mode, and the micro usm loses that...

I don't have direct experience, but I think it was dpreview that found only Olympus's anti-dust system actually did anything. All the others made little to no difference. It's definitely not a feature you should pay extra for. It's very easy to blow dust off the sensor.

As far as I know, there is no K110D Super, only the K100D Super. The K110D is an older model, the same as the K100D but without Shake-Reduction. SR is needed for removing dust with the Pentax. As tdawg has said, the only efficient system is Olympus'. The rest work, but doesn't solve the issue 100%.

There is one more feature added to the K100D Super: support for SDM lenses (Supersonic Drive Motor ... Pentax version of Canon's USM). The first two lenses should be appearing at stores about now: Pentax 16-50mm f/2.8 DA* and 50-135mm f/2.8 DA*. More lenses featuring SDM will appear in 2008.

Cheers,
Pedro

All those things do is delay the inevitable, with the possible exception of Olympus ;)

USM is canon's brand name for sonic motors (iirc, canon holds several patents on them). basically it is a very fast, very quiet motor mechanism for, in this case, autofocus cameras.

nikon uses a similar technology for it's AF-S lenses. i am not certain if nikon's implementation is ring, micro, or mixed depending on the lens.

olympus and pentax are about to release lenses featuring similar tech.

on pentax, again i am not certain if it uses ring, micro, or mixed depending on the lens. iirc, these new SDM lenses are their first k-mount lenses to feature a motor in the lens, rather than being driven (slowly) by a (noisy) motor in the body. (the lenses can also be driven by the in-body motor for backward compatability).
