I know it's cool on the intarwebs to be hating on Sony, but DT is (apparently) a unbiased and mature tech news site, not something like sharikou's blog (the idiot who spent all his waking hours making up stories about Conroe and how dreadful it was going to be)...you'd never tell from their constant stream of incredibly in-depth and snide little 'news' items about Sony.

Speaking from experience, don't bother trying to post anything in Sony's defence, you'll get rated down so far you have to prove you're not a posting bot everytime you want to post a comment there

In case you were wondering, the sole piece of Sony hardware we have in the house is my SRF-S83 pocket radio, and no, i don't own any Sony stock ;)

Cliffs:

1. DailyTech hates Sony with a passion, and spends a vast amount of time and effort digging up negative stories about them to post as tech 'news'.

2. This annoys me, for some strange and primeval reason.

3. I wrote this delicious little rant about it to brighten up your Friday/Saturday/whatever day it is in the past.

4. Feel free to heap abuse on me and explain that Sony actually is the Anti-Christ, and DailyTech is merely doing God's work exposing them to the world.

;)

EDIT: title.

this is what i was after, but is that all you've got? Pathetic effort if you ask me ;) Let me show you how a real man does it:

PS3 late to market? Sony purposely did it to annoy YOU! Lik-Sang closing down? Sony did it! A tiny number of Sony manufactured laptop batteries catch fire? Sony is helping terrorists! Can't get it up? Yup, you guessed it, Sony again :|

Anyway, those should get you started, now it's your turn boys and girls ;)

Maybe it's because Sony truly has done nothing worth commending in recent times. PS3 was delayed, they bash any new features on Microsoft's Xbox 360 senselessly, the first generation of Bluray movies and players suck (so do HD-DVD), the PS3 'gameplay footage' made it to look like some uber 3d powerhouse while all developers claim it is no better/worse than the 360 etc.

Dailytech reports news, and Sony hasn't done much in recent times to gain any positive energy.

It's the same thing everyone else has been posting. GameSpot, Joystiq, the horrid IGN. There are no stories to "dig up" because it's all stuff Sony has come out and stated.

What many/most of us consider a ridiculous price? Sony.

Extreme console shortages at launch, though professing "2 million units by year end"? Sony.

Enormous console size having spent the last few years mocking the original Xbox's? Sony.

Halfassed PS2 controller with a few lights and a gyro thingy thrown on after near unanimous disapproval of their original mockup? Sony.

No use of music ripped to your PS3 during games? Sony.

No central gamertag system a la Xbox Live? Sony.

No iPod compatibility with the PS3? Sony.

The drop of another three titles from launch day (Sonic, NBA Live 07, FEAR)? Sony.

Worst commercials ever? Sony.

That's just looking at the last two weeks via Joystiq.

I don't get it, this one is true... ?

Yup. News about this happened earlier this week if I remember correctly.

Sony sucks.

That's a tenuous claim at best if you actually read the article :p

Sony launched legal action against them for selling Japanese release PSPs (among other things which i forget) in the UK. Lik-Sang didn't even bother attempting to defend themselves in a single legal venue they were sued in, and folded, claiming Sony had forced them out of business.

Several MILLION never caught fire. As dug said, "A tiny number of (several MILLION) Sony manufactured laptop batteries catch fire? Sony is helping terrorists!"

I assure you, you heard about all of them that caught fire, all over the intarwebs...how many was that? 10 at the most? ;)

What's that as a % of the total maunfactured with that 'potential' defect? Pretty minuscule...

Of course, given the potentially fatal consequences, they had no choice but to recall them all...

I'll never buy sony again. Not only can I not stand their proprietary formats (which always fail), but I cannot stand their take on DRM and the crappy products they put out. The only sony products I have ever owned have broken pretty quickly or are of such poor quality that they can't even begin living up to the hype.

Just check out Sony's receivers and their stated wattage, it's a joke.

I hear their ultraportables are second to none, and i've no complaints about my portable radio ;) I'm sure they make some crap, but who doesn't? The 'hype' you complain about is what you'd call 'effective advertising' in any other company...the intelligent buyer ignores it and reads reviews ;)

Aside from these petty squabbles, i can't fully comprehend people's hatred of a company for having an arrogant and sadly out of touch PR department, and overstepping themselves with the PS3 in terms of launch time/quantity...it's certainly not reason in my book to spew fanatical hate about them at every chance i get on the intarweb, to immediately write off everything they make, and to deride people for buying Sony products ;)

but that's somewhat beside the point, we could spend hours putting companies in front of Sony and it would be true for a given product...

Sony is the only company in the world that can spark thousands of articles and forum posts from some random comment by their PR department.

What you do not realize is that Samsung's success has been a huge thorn in Sony's side. Literally. They have stolen revenues and profits away from Sony by making better products attached to better price tags.

Well you know... I am still buying a ps3 for my own personal use. Some games I want to play will not be on 360.

Parent misunderstood. I knew of the incident - I was implying that Sony is responsible for Lik-Sang going out of business.

Lik-Sang (probably under sound legal advice) didn't respond to claims in foreign courts because it sets a very dangerous prescedent for that individual/company. Basically, by responding, Lik-Sang would've been acknowledging the court's ability to pass judement on them. A similar thing came up with Spamhaus, with an Illinois court I believe.

Lik-Sang was legally purchasing PSPs (and other Sony hardware) and selling it while complying with all of their local laws and international customs regulations (I've purchased from Lik-Sang, so I can assure you they filled out the customs forms 100%). Sony's argument was (basically) that Lik-Sang didn't have the right to sell the property they legally acquired outside of the region it was intended for.

It's easy to see that ruling stretched to software, and import/export was a huge part of Lik-Sang's business. So, I don't think it's a tenuous claim at all. Sony may have got a court to agree with them, but it's not hard to get a court to agree to anything anymore.

Sony does most of the damage to themselves. It's kind of hard to produce a favourable news story about sony when most of the news is unfavourable.

On the other hand, Daily Tech is horrible for news.

New stories show up there sometimes a day or two after other sites.

then once the stories are finally up, you've got the morons who have to try to be the first to correct every spelling/grammer error in each article.

Sure, maybe they need to use spellchecker, but use email to tell them instead of the comments section. I don't want to read your correction post, I want to discuss the article
