So, I just bought the K8V SE board and I'm trying to format a single SATA 160GB drive and the manual only talks about setting up RAID! Raid would be great in I could afford another drive but I only have the one for now. Can I format this single SATA drive??? It's a Maxtor and I know the jumper is set to master correctly on the drive.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE? When I go to install windows, it says that there is no drive detected?

Uh? help...:(

First off, you need to go into your BIOS and make sure that it is detecting the drive. It should be listed with your CD and floppy drives. There should be a setting somewhere else in your BIOS to enable serial ATA hard drives. Just look around BIOS and make sure all of those settings are correct. Last check boot sequency and make sure that you have the hard drive set to boot first.

My a7n8x deluxe has no options in the bios for SATA but does have a jumper on board to enable it. Like Fricardo said, make sure the jumper is set or the bios has it enabled. Now, when installing Windows it will ask you if you need to install 3rd party scsi drivers (I believe this comes up almost immediately) and to press f6. Later it will ask for the drivers. You need to have these ready on a floppy. You should then be able to proceed as normal.

sounds like you just need the drivers on the floppy disk for the XP setup. When XP setup starts, you press F6 to load other drivers.
