Apparently it is the end of the model year for some AV reveiver lines. I had been looking at the JVC for a couple months finding it as low as $315 on line. I did some calling around today, and a local store HH Gregg ( B&M common in the midwest ) was down to just the display model. The sales person I talked to said he would let it go for $200. Rob at the Indianapolis store west side. When I went to pick it up, I mentioned that I needed an optical cable for my DVD player. I think he was just being a nice guy, and he sold me a 6' generic for $2.50.

I called around to two other stores in the area, and greenwood and Indianapolis east side still had one left each, the display model. Still has factory warranty. Your milage may very but for me this was a very good deal

JVC reciever $200
Optical cable 2.50
sales tax 5% $ 10.13
Manual ordered from JVC website 8.15 + 2.50 S&H
Total $223.48

edit added price of manual,
be nice it's my first post in the deal forum

yowza - I got my JVC RX7000 June last year from bid.com for $203/shipped. This is an excellent receiver for the money people.

Yes, I bought the 8000VBK for $269 (from eCost) about 4 months ago. This is a very good receiver - 2nd from the top. The 9000 is "marginally" better but runs about $250 more. About the only difference between the 9000 and the 8000 is that the 9000 has a different amplifier structure and will output sound (2 sources) to two separate rooms. Go for the 8000 - very nice. The 888 (?) that replaced it doesn't appear to have any new features over the 8000.

Good to hear positive reviews, I'm about to pick one of these up from Amazon.com. Unfortunately they're charging $399 for them. Fortunately I have a s*%#load of Amazon gc's to get rid of. But maybe I should just pick up one of these $200 units and use the cg's for something else.. hhhmmm.
