JVC receiver with USB input?

How would it actually work? I don't imagine running an USB wire between my motherboard's port and the receiver will install drivers, or have "USB output" appear on my volume control. Anybody try this yet?

I have a JVC RX-8010 receiver, I hooked it up to my laptop and windows (millenium) found the device, there are no special controls, you just use media player or whatever program you want and whatever audio is playing will be sent to your receiver works great.

how's the sound quality compared to a more typical RCA wire setup?

It is a digital connection so the sound is very good, I couldnt tell any difference between the usb connection and my cd changer using an optical cable.

Slacker, does the USB connection to your JVC allow you any advanced control over the recievers features as would, say, a remote, but from windows? That would be interesting.

That would be nice, but the connection is only an audio source.
