Just saw a breaking news banner at CNN saying justice department notified NCAA of antitrust investigation of BCS, no links or other details yet.

Man, first Obama kills Osama, and now he's trying to end the BCS. If he can, he's definitely getting reelected.

In her letter, Varney asked Emmert to explain why college football does not have a playoff when so many other college sports do. She also asked what steps, if any, the NCAA has taken to create a playoff, and whether the NCAA has determined that there are aspects of the BCS system that do not serve interests of fans, colleges, universities, and players.

Damn. Straight.

Sure you're not thinking of the Fiesta Bowl? That was the one that came under a huge amount of scrutiny in the last few months. Strippers, $500,000 golf course memberships...ect. I think it actually got stripped of the BCS title and moved over to the Cotton bowl, no?

BCS? Are you serious? Are there not more important things?

Uh, Justice Department handles anti-trust issues. There isn't a bigger anti-trust issue in America today. this is exactly what they should be focusing on. It's a billion dollar industry.

My cynical self has trouble believing the pro-corporate Federal Government is at all serious about any kind of anti-trust efforts. Perhaps BCS didn't throw enough money into lobbying and/or reelection campaigns?

Beer distribution is pretty bad. Of course the beer industry is like the second highest political donator so that probably turns a few blind eyes.

If the entire industry is only worth a billion, I'm surprised this even caught their attention.

A bunch of congressmen are big time college football fans who hate the system. Senator Oren Hatch, a big time Republican Senator from Utah, which has two universities that have gotten screwed big time by the BCS, has been jumping up and down for an investigation for a while now.

Fiesta sounds right, as I said it was a bit of guess from memory. :)

Don't think they've been officially had anything done to them by the bcs yet though, (believe bcs asked for info/documents only so far) and rumors were that with the new jerry world the cotton bowl was lobbying hard to get their spot.
