I have a dilemma, I have the video card mentioned in this thread and if you're wondering what it ended up reaching it is now at 590/830.
830 on the mem is pretty good (I think) but 590 on the core is slightly low for a 7600GT which is probably because of what I wrote in My original post (oc'ed, the 7600gt's seem to be reaching 610-615).

Now I just won a 7600GT KO from eVGA and I don't know if it's worth the hassle of switching cards and seeing how high it will go, or if I should just sell it.
Or maybe I should buy an SLI mobo?
Any suggestions?

Formerly:
I finally bought a new video card, a 7600GT from eVGA (and no akshayt, I'm not interested in hearing how I should have gotten the X1900XT ;)) but it was not the CO or KO versions and it was clocked at the standard 560MHz not 580MHz like on the CO and KO versions. Does this mean that these are just the cards that eVGA couldn't get up to 580MHz so they are selling them at the standard 560MHz?

I don't need 75 FPS or play at insane resolutions, so 20-40 extra MHz really won't make a difference to me (will it?), I just wanna oc cause I like playing with these things.

BTW please don't tell me that I should have gotten the CO or KO. they were out of stock at ZZF and I had to get it there and I had to order it by this morning.

Just pretend that the 580 cards don't exist. You'll feel a lot better. ;)

7600GT is a fast card. As for overclocking, YRMV (your results may vary).

A bit off topic, but ...

I'm thinking of getting either this new 7600gt, AGP version or an ATI X850Pro. Some have said the 850 is the way to go, given the new gt card will be more money, with similar performance and without the driver complications.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

thanks,

John

Go and download coolbits or Rivatuner and voila!!!! You can clock it up to 580 yourself

yeah, I know, but my question is whether the chips that eVGA doesn't overclock in the factory are from the bottom of the barrel oc-wise in other words they couldn't get it to 580 (or to whatever they consider stable enough to sell it at 580 without problems i.e. 585) so they sell it at 560 and now I won't be able to get it past 580 (if I can hit 580 at all) cause it's a crappy chip (relatively)

wow, blatent threadjacking... start a new one!:D

OP: you should be able to oc the card to ~600mhz. They just don't oc it for you on the one you got. Your oc is of course, a crap shoot.

EDIT: edited for bad grammer

Why can't the 7600gt do AA?

uhh what game if it were possible could a 7600GT or a X850pro do HDR or AA at the same time anyways? X1900XT's can barely do it at the same time never mind the low-mid range cards.

It might overclock alright, but what I was seeing when the 7600GTs first came out was that they couldn't overclock very well at all. I bought an eVGA 7600GT CO a month after the card's release, and I can't OC past 600mhz core...I was able to get about a 100mhz OC on the memory, but the OC was so weak that it made no noticeable difference in gameplay, so I'm keeping this card stock.

well if your into playing with your hardware I would go buy a cheap SLI mobo and have some fun, thats what I would do. If your going to sell one of the cards I would say sell the brand new KO card though as an oced card is MAYBE 2% fast which is unnoticable.

I would want to get a decently price mobo as I would want to replace my current one, not get one to play around with, probably an asus or DFI between $100-$140.

Another thing that I just realized is that if I were to run SLI, I'd probably need a new power supply so I'm not so sure anymore that it's worth it...

In Oblivion, with 2xAAA, it looks pretty amazing compared to just AA or HDR with nVidia. x1900gt, 1280x1024, sometimes 1360x786

what ever works for you. I've seen some NICE motherboard below $100 before.
Either way I think a 350watt quality PSU would run 7600 GT SLI just fine.

well the ko is 580/1500 to being with. but why bother. at most you could maybe get a few percent more, and if you keep the evga unopened you might get say $20 more out of it.

I think that what I'm gonna do is sell it, add some $$$ and get 2GB of RAM
