just won a 6820 nokia on ebay

ok this is my very first cell phone, and it was originally with AT&T, i don't think it is unlocked because the seller said in the product description that it isn't

i would like to know how do you unlock it? (without paying to have it unlocked)

I believe there's a Nokia calculator out there, but not sure if it will work on these newer phones

Why did you buy it if you knew it was locked? Unless it'll still be cheaper than a new one after you unlock it, you should've just bought a new phone.

yea it turned out really cheap compared to what it sells for on ebay,

for unlocking it what will it approximately cost? BCYL you mentioned the calculator it has it what can i do with it to unlock?

Basically to unlock a Nokia phone, you just need to type in the unlock code... the calculator takes your IMEI number, which provider locked the phone, and then calculator that unlock code for you... all you need to do then is type in that unlock code, and your phone will be unlocked...

This was true for the older nokia phones, not sure if it's the same way with these new ones

Newer ones are harder to unlock via software. You can try, but if it doesn't work after 2 times, give up. Or if it gives some kind of error message after first unlock attempt using the software, it's been hardlocked and someone screwed up already. But there is a forum out there, unlockme.co.uk or something like that, that can help.

yea that site is where i tried to unlock the phone when i put in the generated unlocking code it said "phone restrictions off" that means its unlocked!? also if once unlocked it can't be relocked by a sim card or anything?
