Yawn. Another slow outrage day. We'll give 16 times that much to Israel, and have been for decades...

The price of a single F-22 is over $300M.

The latest aircraft carrier costs over $10B...

Let's whine about the pennies in the lobby while the vault is being cleared out in the back, shall we?

You can be sure that if the government is involved the answer is NO. Since they don't have to earn the money they spend not much thought is put into the concept of ROI.

The Investment here is the hope that Pakistanis gain a more favourable view of the US. Likely also of their own Government. Given the Realities in Afghanistan, specifically regarding the Taliban(also Al Qaida) and it's basing in Pakistan, this seems a reasonable Investment to try.

And Obama just passed a 1 trillion dollar + Healthcare bill with no way to pay for it. Again, why whine about pennies when we have trillions?

Considering the hundreds of Billions we've already sunk into Iraq and Afghanistan, this does not seem an entirely unreasonable amount to invest into the overall effort to stabilize the area.

Hundreds of millions? oh noes

I think we have bigger fish to fry, this is peanuts compared to more long term fiscal issues.

Of course we can pay for it. We just have to raise taxes slightly on the top 1% of incomes... who've enjoyed the lowest effective rates of the first world's wealthy for 30 years...

Don't worry, you'll never be there, and if you somehow get that lucky, you'll be able to afford it, too...

Fuck foreign aid...let's keep the money here in the USA...oh wait...I'm sure that'll help grease the skids for the WOT in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Makes me wonder how much of that will end up in the hands of the warlords who effectively run much of Pakistan...or how much will be used to buy weapons used to kill US troops...

It's fine to help other countries when we are flush with cash...however, in times like this, we need to close the purse strings...especially to countries who openly hate the USA...and includes not only Pakistan, but Israel as well.

The point is that we shouldn't be giving any money to foreign nations. Period.

We need to exit the nation-building market, because we suck at it.

Just remember: Non-interventionist polices are not the same as isolationist policies. Protectionism is more isolationist than non-intervention.

Redistribution of wealth makes everyone poorer. The standard of living is, on average, lowered, not raised. At the median, it will be unchanged.

The items you listed have great ROI

Pocket change compared to the rest of our foreign aid and the money we have spent trying to stabilize Iraq and Afghanistan.

Still, it disgusts me.
