Yeah, move to the Core 2 Duo and just overclock the life out of it. It's a much better value than the FX. Otherwise everything else looks fine.

Actually, the sound card that you have on your list is wayyy overpriced. Go with the X-FI XtemeMusic or Onboard. The Onboard will be cheaper...;)

Ahh, so finally someone says something good about that Foxconn board!

Is it good or bad? Has anyone tried it?

I don't know by what basis you have recommended these items.

If he really wants that remote, $85AR isn't too bad. (I'm thinking the audiobooks?)

Otherwise yeah, X-Fi for ~$80 or less AR ftw :) (If he has speakers/headphones to justify it)

Presumably that they are better is insufficent?

The FX-55 is a good CPU, but the 6300 is 95% as good in single threaded stuff and it's got a spare core to go with it.

Motherboard = Meh.

PSU = High grade PSU not thermaltake junk (as you'd picked out ;))

RAM= Bad choice, you'll want 533 if you're not overclocking. Even so value is a good thing.

HD = Seagate is a newer drive than yours, 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other really.

With most C2D (core 2 duo) motherboards there is onboard HD sound, which is pretty decent. Unless you've got a decent set of cans or speakers then it's not worth getting an XFI.

Right now the FX-55 is $139 AMD FX-55 - $139, and you only have to run DDR400 with it.

The 6300 can't touch the AMD for that price, and the gap really widens if you overclock the FX-55.

uhhh.... best bang for buck?
Ohhh.... if you wanted your components to break down in a year I would have suggested an aspire psu, an ecs board, a no name lcd and you know what, screw a case, just throw it all on a cardboard box and save some cash. Does that sound better?;)

EDIT: You can get an intel board for like $100 too if ocing is of no interest to you.

Your case looks identical on the inside to a thermaltake soprano/tsunami. soprano is about 100 shipped. and its not tacky like the shark. my .02

Is this your system? If I said I had 2k budget, would you recommend something else?

I like the BenQ, Lian case, Mushkin memory, video, HD you suggested

Not sure about the mobo and what is Enhance 5140gh. I can't find that at all.

Actually that is very similar to the rig I want to build, but I want an x1900xt 256mb, and maybe i'll slap a systrin kuformula vf1 on there to quiet it down and cool it better. I also need the optical drives and a mouse (I have a keyboard lying around)
Check this out. It's jonnyguru's review of the enhance 5140gh. In case you don't know jonny, he's the most knowledgable dude for psus. Basically if he says a psu is good, it's GOOD. This one is recommended by him.
The foxconn MoBo is fairly new. There was a review done here comparing it to the gigabyte 965p-dq6. It fared pretty well. This was the intel board I was talking about. It's no frill, just solid quality and it won't fail you.
Hope this helped a bit.:D

Very nice build.

The only thing I would change would be an Intel, Asus, or Gigabyte board, and a monitor from a better namufacture, NEC, Viewsonic, Acer, ect.
