Just what is someone with ~$200 to spend and a 7850 & 500W PS supposed to buy?

All the Fury-this and 980ti-that is just noise to me. This time last year I thought I'd picking up a 960ti on a coming black Friday deal. Here I am a year later feeling like I still have no good options. A base 960 looks like the best of a bunch of bad ones, is there anything else that's actually worthwhile even on the radar?

Sorry, I should have stated. The CPU is a i5 2500K @ 4Ghz. The power supply is generic Rosewill with something like a 16a/15a split on two 12v rails. And I'm going to be sticking with a 1920x1080 resolution.

Edit: Also, is there a reason the 960 has remained absent from the benchmark compare tool?

That's the unfortunate conclusion I keep coming to. How long is that wait supposed to be? Are we expecting, how should I put this, both manufacturers to actually have new silicon next release? And in this price range?

I was entertaining expanding my budget for a PSU upgrade and a Radeon 290 depending on the info that came out today. So far it's looking like I'd maybe go for that but sure enough newegg jacked the price on it.

A second hand 7950 for ~$100, and overclock it to 1100mhz. Should be able to get a few dollars form selling 7850, a very cheap upgrade to see you through to 16nm

That's a shame, that's the closest thing that would be a really obvious upgrade without trading for a second-hand card. The 7950 upgrade might be well worthwhile, prices on the low end can get pretty compressed so you wouldn't be out much if you do it well.

(Incidentally congrats on the first signature to make me actually laugh in a long time)

Well, see, that's the one I didn't want to sell out while I decide b/c tax from amazon puts me at the same spot. ;)

its not sold out I just put 2 in my cart.

I'd save the 18$ tax and buy from newegg. plus free game also.
So that's like 2$ you pay for the game. Plus no waiting on rebate

200$ can easily get him a used 290, if he doesn't mind used. it would give him a pretty big performance jump over his current 7850.

Based upon your psu concerns, I would buy a used 970. You should be able to find one of those for $200 or less no problemo these days.

If you're lucky, you can find an r9 290 for cheap. You may have to undo that overclock on your cpu to be able to power it on the 500W power supply though.

Yeah that's probably what will be needed. A huge leap in performance at the $200 or sub $200 level probably won't come until 16nm. By then I hope to see $200 GPUs doing what a $400 GPU does today.

I have a cheap Corsair CX500 that powers up a i7 3770 non k and a Asus Strix 970 with no issues.Didn't work out great when i had a 770 working with it.Housed in a case with 2 hard drives and 4 120mm fans on low speed.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards just getting the 970 on the expectation my current power supply will handle it. Still, I don't think I've ever spent $300 on a video card, and before now haven't felt like I've had to to make the upgrade worthwhile. I'm also still feeling nervous about the memory ordeal. I know the current consensus is it's a non-issue but I'm still not entirely sold, or completely forgiving on how it was represented initially.

Your thinking too much.....Just think in terms of "It's only a video card to play GAMES with" and snap out f it. :)
