Based on the cost of ammo maybe a .357 which can also shoot 38 would be better. There would be a wide range of AMMO you could shoot also. I use to shoot a Ruger 22 with the long heavy round barrel, and I loved it. It was easy to place most of the rounds inside the #8 circle on a target. It might not make a good self defense weapon, but it never jammed on me and the rounds were cheap and plentiful. I always liked the looks of a 1911 .45. However, as pistols go they can be quite expensive depending on the brand and model. Not many people are getting up after being hit with a .45. I use to have a baretta 9mm and I hated the action of the gun.

I love my Glock 23, but I got it for $250 with two extra magazines. It was owned by a cop, so nothing wrong with it. haven't read all of the posts here, but I did see one person say 9mm is better than .40. The Glock 23 will easily convert to 9mm with the swapable barrel and magazines. I use 9mm for target practice.

The 23 is not the most concealable weapon. If you're a large person, maybe it will be, but for me it's not.

Spraying him with buck, then a 45LC, then buck, then a 45LC...etc

The buck can blind, cause pain, stun, surprise, etc. The LC will kill whatever it hits dead.

and by buck, I mean something like this

Oh wow, that's some impressive ammo for self defense. I'm not sure why people keep complaining about penetration. Flesh is pretty squishy and this stuff will kill a person.

People don't do home intrusion with body armor... and it's more dangerous in most homes for over-penetration and killing your neighbor's kid by firing off 15 9mm rounds while you're half awake.

And yeah, you could load 3 buckshot and then the rest 45 LC if it's really that much an issue.

Nothing is more scary than a damn shotgun at close range and these 410 Revolvers bring that to the fight.
