I have to say it was a let down. In comparison with The Illusionist, The Illusionist was a better movie. Interestingly, the trailer didn't seem that great for the Illusionist, on the other hand the trailer for The Prestige was amazing.
The trailer lies a lot though. It mentions that both the main character's were friends at the beginning when in fact they weren't. The trailer also says that Christian Bale's character can do real magic, which he can't. They also seem to pass Christian Bale as much more charming that he actually is in the movie. But this last one isn't a biggie anyway.
The movie is interesting to watch, and long, but not dragging. Although, I am a fan of history and this movie includes a few interesting things in it. The fight between AC and DC standards played some role in it. It fails to completely immerse me, but was filled with a few twists. Although they don't contain much impact. I have mixed feelings about the movie.
There was also something about Hugh Jackman's acting that really brought the character to life. Christian Bale also did an excellent job. And of course, Michael Caine, although it doesn't really need to be mentioned, always does an excellent job.
