Just watched the original stargate movie again. . .

episodic

Lifer
Anyone know the story as why they did not cast the guy in the original movie that played Daniel as the Daniel in the series?

I almost think he would've been better.

Michael Shanks made the character his own and i think if u put the other person back the show would not be nearly as entertaining

I watched it tonight too. They did a pretty good job of keeping things consistent from the movie to SG1 but one big thing I noticed is in the movie they say the other gate is in another galaxy on the far side of the universe. In the series it's supposedly on a planet close to Earth.

Also in the movie at the end , they reveal Ra to look like an alien, which is different from the Goa'uld idea

Yeah, I noticed that too. He kinda looked like an evil E.T.

More proof that killing ET = a better ending then how that movie ended. 😛

Money -- look up James Spader on IMDB. He wasn't making as much as as Kurt Russell per movie, but way too much for a ShowTime TV series to be able to afford him.

Michael Shanks turned out to be an excellent choice, since he's much more likable than Spader who is creepy, oily, and/or reptillian in most of his roles.
