I met the real Patch Adams back in 1997 before the movie was made. He told me Robin Williams was spending time with him so he can get familiar with the character.

Yes, if you were looking for car chases, boobies and stuff blowing up then it probably sucked. If you were looking for a good, (true) and moving story, it certainly didn't.

Meh - to me that movie was just yet another in RW's seemingly endless streak of roles in which he played God's Gift to Humanity in cloying, facile feel-good movies. (think Jakob the Liar, PA, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, and even Awakenings to a degree, although it was better than the rest of that lot). I think he actually is a skilled actor, and has become a lot more interesting since he has branched out over the last couple of years, with his excellent work in Insomnia and One Hour Photo.
