LOL! nope, I haven't regularly gone to the movies in decades...

it's the whole "this group is SOOO cool we need to make movies about them" thing that turns me off.

Give me some good war or spy movies, something with lots of blood, guts, and gore, with some car chases thrown in for good measure...:D

Perhaps... and this may just be speculation... all the people who had any shred of creativity actually got jobs writing in Hollywood and decided rather than writing the same tired stories about the jerks that used to piss them off in high school, they'd rather write stories about people more like them... as opposed to all of the people who the 80's and 90's movies were about that now have awesome jobs in factories, working for their dad's construction business, or selling cars.

Being artsy-fartsy or geek is where the money is at now. It's no wonder the appeal has shifted.
