It turned out better than I expected. Most of the racial stuff was portrayed correctly but I felt the "Asians" were badly represented. What is the point of the asian guy smuggling their own kind and possibly selling them as slave labor? I'm sure it happens but what stereotype is it trying to break unlike the ones with the other races?

Also with the Persian guy, I felt no sympathy for him. It was his ignorance that his store was trashed yet he tries to kill the hispanic guy in revenge because he thought the guy did a halfass job with the lock. Then he says an angel helped him because the little girl wasn't hit only because he had blanks. WTF!

One last thing. Regarding the copy that Ryan was playing, I think he would of gotten off of any charges even if he reported the incident. I mean the black kid had a criminal record which he probably didn't know about so he could of said he felt threaten when the black kid had his hand in his pocket as if he was going to pull out a weapon.

it was a pretty good movie. ludacris's character was kind of interesting. i don't know. i only felt bad for the hispanic family.

That comment made me smile.

I *being white* thought the white people were badly represented. The next day at work my friend *black* had come and ask me what I thought of the movie. His comment? "It was good, I though all of the races were portrayed correctly except the black people"

Overall it was a very good movie

interesting point.

good movie.

this is a repost... pretty good movie, I just watched a clockwork orange last night, and I can't really go back to talking about this movie after that one. 😛

Crash is a good movie, although I do have to agree the Asians were not represented much. Although when they ran over the Korean guy, they referred to him as a "chinaman" which I think is somewhat accurate in the fact that most other races can't distinguish between the different Asian races.

He tried to kill the Mexican because he thought he was the one that trashed the store because he didn't get paid. He also didn't know anything about guns, so he didn't know either what blanks were or he didn't know it was loaded with blanks (remember his daughter loaded it for him).

He didn't have prior knowledge of the criminal record, so that likely wouldn't be a factor. I doubt he would have gotten off the charges. He was probably justified in drawing his weapon, but not in firing at that time.

You know what? Everybody thinks everybody's race is portrayed in the wrong way (except for the hispanic ppl because the hispanic dude did nothing wrong). My answer to this is it doesn't matter. The message of the movie is clear. In a lot of cases, we perpetuate the stereotypes of our races because they already exist in society, take the guys trying to steal the cars. If anything, I was kinda let down that the hispanic race was the only one portrayed as good with no negatives about it. That seemed kinda racist toward everyone else.😛

I *being persian* liked the movie. I particularly liked how the persian woman said "since when did persian become arab?" I can't tell you how many people I have to correct on this because of the broad generalization of the term "arab". Yes it was messed up for the guy to wanna shoot the door fixer, but that had little to do with race, and more to do with anger and trying to place the blame somewhere after you'd lost everything.

Also the angel he spoke of who saved him from shooting the little girl was (obviously) his daughter. She never wanted anyone to be hurt, she knew full well the bullets she bought were blanks. I thought that was really awesome.

OMG, ANOTHER CRASH THREAD??? Please people, just bump one of the 20+ "I just watched Crash" threads. We know it's a good, emotional movie but wow.

That was my point, and IMO what makes the movie so cool. Each race was ment to portray a negative stereotype that is perpetuated in society. I think you are supposed to notice how "off" your race is portrayed while thinking about how "off" you may perceive someone elses.

At least thats what I took out of it.

I agree...the only thing that would have made the movie more complete is if it didn't single out one race that was only good like it did.
