Actually, a pretty common theme in his movies is to use nudity in uncomfortable situations. You see a female body but you find yourself disgusted, it really shows how powerful of a director he was. He takes something traditionally positive and turns it upside down.

In Eyes Wide Shut, it was being billed as a NC17 porno with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Ive read plenty of reviews where the movie was bashed because it wasnt "sexy". Most every scene with nudity in that movie was disturbing, which f'd with alot of people's heads who went to see a Cruise and Kidman soft porn.

Kubrick's power (IMO) was his ability to use film to convey his ideas to you, without you even thinking about it. In Clockwork Orange, you find yourself disgusted with Alex at the beginning of the movie. Near the end, you find yourself feeling compassion for him, which is something you wouldnt anticipate feeling for him given his previous actions. You dont think, you just "feel" with Kubricks movies while you watch it. And thats what gives you so much to think about after you have watched it.

I have two techno remixes of the theme.

(+20 nerd points).

I think I've only seen part of it. My roommate was watching it for a class.

I didn't really like it. I watched it with some guy from my dorm that picked it out and my gf. She stopped watching it after about an hour and the other guy was really into it which kind of freaked me out.

Oh come on, the sex scene where that they run in rapid speed with the William Tell Overture is hilarious.
The movie is very messed up but it's still a cult classic for a reason.

Excellent summation and a great movie.

Very powerful AND disturbing movie.

It is funny to think that shock therapy and other forms of therapy very similar to this were actually used in the history of mental health.

Honestly, when I saw eyes wide shut... my friends and I just scratched our heads and chalked it up to a wasted night. Now it could've been that we were watching this movie at 3am but honestly, I didn't get the point. All I saw was Tom Cruise walking around town and running into a bunch of crazy sex-crazed people. I may not be cultured enough to appreciate the "theme" of the movie, but I don't care. a clockwork orange was def. kubrick's best. The other ones were mehh...

well, i know this thread is 2 months old... but this is dugweb checking in. i just finished watching 'a clockwork orange' :p

That show is a major WTF, I was amazed at how graphic the rape scenes were!

Out of curiosity where was it filmed? Ive sumized that it had to be filmed in England (besides all the accents, lol). It seems like showing boobs in the movie is no big deal, and they even sneak some shots of the girls crotch :Q In america we are more of the show them naked, but no private parts with some sneaked shots of the breasts in movies.
