Just upped the refresh rate of my Rat

I never noticed how slow and choppy the default refresh rate of a PS2 mouse is (40hz). This little program came with 2 seperate little utilities.

The first is a big grey square on the screen, where you are supposed to move your cursor over the square and it tells you your average refresh rate.

The second utility actually allows you to play with the rates. I upped the rate to 200hz and holy sweet jesus is it smooth :Q. I lowered it down to 80hz and noticed very little difference from the 200hz. Im guessing this has to do with the fact at 1024x760 my monitor refreshes at 80hz (or is it 85?...i dont know). Could that be it?

If you dont have this little proggie i recommend giving it a download. Just show "some browser lovin'"-VoodooExtreme- right here...

[Edit] Oh BTW, for you gamers, it makes moving a smoother when playing online. [/Edit]

That prog is really old.

But it's still good to post reminders like this to the newbies out there.

Anyway what is the USB's default refresh rate? 100hz?

I think the default PS/2 refresh is 60Hz, but I may be wrong. I'm pretty sure a lot of our members know about this, but I may be wrong ;). Still, thanks for the heads up; I wasn't aware of the new grey box feature.

I have a Logitech mouse, and with the software that's on Logitech's site, I can just set it to 200Hz and I got it.

I can't stand 40Hz anymore, it's so insanely choppy!

USB - 125Hz
My mouse - 80Hz (Logitech, using MouseWare, 100Hz seems less smooth than 80Hz)

Now if anyone could come up with a program to do the same for my serial mouse I would be happy.

USB is 125 MHz, yes

btw, I've got mine set at 200 MHz, but the testing program only reports up to 150 MHz.....oh well, I still like it.

most newer mouse drivers include a PS/2 rate adjuster

No proof, just what I've picked up from spending way too much time with computers. :)
