Can't even describe in words how much better Dolby Digital and DTS sound is compared to Pro Logic. I don't know what the hell took me so long to upgrade my receiver. Everything is so much cleaner and distinct. I can actually hear little sound cues that I never heard before. If your wondering which receiver I bought, I got this nice Onkyo one for $435 (open box).
Onkyo TXSR600
I've only got a couple minor complaints with this receiver though. First off, installation was confusing as hell, but I read the manual and all was good. About an 1 hour and half of total setup time. Second complaint, the volume control from 0-30 is absolutely useless. I have to set the volume to 50 to get any good acceptable volume. For DVD's i've found that 70-75 works great. Above 80, there is noticeable hiss from the speakers. The amp is also a little underpowered (80X6), but when i get my new speaker setup i'm going to get a separate amp so i won't need to worry. Aside from this, I've got nothing but praise and to those of you out there stuck in mono and prologic land, upgrade today and go digital/dts, it's truly amazing.
