Here's the system. The only change between tests was swapping out the 9500 Pro for the x800 pro.

Abit NF7-S
1.5GB Ram @ 166mhz
2100+ XP @ ~1850mhz (will o/c it again this weekend)
9500 Pro (1st test) x800 Pro (2nd test)

Test 1: 1750 3dmarks in '05. I had never run the test before and had no idea what to expect. I did not do any comparisons.

Test 2: 4808 3dmarks in '05. I did a comparison and it looks like this is on the high side of comparable systems but I wanted to se what you guys thought.

Now, it looks as if the last piece of this thing for me to upgrade will be the processor. I'm looking at getting a 2500+ or so mobile barton. All of my ram is rated at PC3200 so I know I have no bottle necks in opening that portion up as well. My proc can actually run faster but I needed to do some case cleaning before pumping it back up to around 185x11 or 11.5 where I had it about a year ago.

So, do the scores look okay?

Thanks.

look good to me ;)

my 2000+ AXp handles 2.1 GHz fine with the stock cooler, and i can push it to 2.3 if i don't mind it being...shall we say, 'toasty' ;) So you should have a nice bit more headroom in that CPU...however my mobo (ASUS A7V8X) doesn't have an AGP lock so i 185 is my top fsb...at the moment i'm just running 167x12.5 tho...

Well, like I said I've never ran the test before so I'm not sure if that's a realistic score or not. I did run the test twice just to make sure there was no fluke and both times the score was in a reasonable variance (within 100 points, I actually did some minor overclocking to move from 4700 to 4800 marks).

Do you guys have any suggestions on some other benchmark programs I can run? Maybe some game benches?

Wow. I have a 9700pro in my system now which is a NF7-S, 2100+ @ 2.3Ghz and a gig of ram. I wasn't going to bother upgrading just the video, but after seeing your results, I just might and hang onto this system for another year.

Definately. I could still squeeze by pretty well with that thing but figured with Megatomic giving me such a good price on his that I couldn't pass up the upgrade. ;)

I think if I can find a decent price on a barton I might be able to squeeze another 1 - 1.5 years outta this thing. I'm locked in at 1280x1024 due to my 1905fp so I'm obviously not too concerned with high detail/high res and never have been. Decent FPS at medium detail is just fine by me.

BTW, does anyone suggest any other 'real' benchmarks? I know that when I put this system together I had the UT demo to bench with and hope there is something else out there other than 3dmark type apps.

If your motherboard and ram can handle 200mhz+ fsb, I'd go for it. I got a huge increase in speed in real games (half life 2 in particular) by going to 200mhz fsb on my old XP system. Run it at something like 9.5x200fsb to get 1900mhz. If you've got a thoroughbred, it may get up to 2200-2300mhz with no problems (with a little extra voltage).

And I wouldn't worry about upgrading the cpu since an extra 200-400mhz on an AXP will not give you any noticable difference. I'd save it for a future upgrade.

Here's what I scored and I have no idea what this means since I haven't done any comparisons yet.

It looks normal (although Aq3 forums are gone, used to be a member). All I can say by the looks of it, the CPU is holding the vid card a bit. If your happy with the performance, which is great. If you need more juice out of that card, I would advise to have a new mobo and cpu.

Here is my AQ3 score also, although it is not an apple and apple comparison. But you can see an updated cpu can influence a GPU score and performance.

GPU: 9711
CPU: 8846

3100+ "paris" sempron (@ 2.069 GHz)
2 x 512 mb pqi DDR400 1:1 (230mhz)

Yup, I have no doubt that a new chip would make a huge difference. Not just because of the mhz either. The cache on the barton should do a much better job than the thoroughbred but I'm going to hold my judgement until I do some overclocking this weekend.

BTW, your scores made me cry. ;)
