Wow! Upgraded to 10mb speed from 5. Used speed test and my speed was 9.75 up from 4.6. Internet browser has come to life. An extra 10 dollars a month well spent.

I don't think we have a cap here in Texas. I don't do much besides internet surf and a little crysis wars online.

I went from 1.5mbs/384 dsl to 12/2 comcast yesterday. I can get up to 15mbs down for awhile with power boost.

Nice! I have 5m/512k. TBH I would be happy to keep my download and just raise my upload to like 2mb. I probably upload more then I download, when I consider stuff like my offsite backups and what not.

Nice. I've been using 30Mbit service for a long time now. It was a nice step up from 512k last summer.

woot :)

That's insane, I would LOVE to have that. No need to rent server space for 100+ per month. 10 upload is pretty decent for a server.

anyone have a list of which areas charter has imposed the 100gb cap?

About as clear as mud (Section 13)

I don't think they've actually put it into effect in all markets though. I know a few people who have Charter and download 300 or 400 gigs a month constantly and haven't gotten any notice yet. Maybe they're just not enforcing it yet, I don't know.

which leads me to my 2nd question, 3 people here share the internet, what's the best way to keep track of usage? I don't think I use much over 60 or so gigs a month, but with the 2 other people I think we must hit 100.

I've been on 18mbps at my school apartment and 10mbps at home for a few months now.
Most sites don't load past 300KB/s or so :(
But it's nice when I do get the 1-2MB/s.

works pretty well and can show if they throttle data for things like torrents.

interesting, NOD32 found some sort of trojen on this site and aborted the connect. I'm sure it's nothing, but this is the first time NOD give me bad info :(

I had the 10 mbps service from Charter in Cookeville, Tennessee for about 18 months. For just regular use (web/email/gaming) it was fine and all the bandwidth test sites were reporting I was receiving the full 10 mbps (actually about 11 mbps).

For light use I never noticed any problems with the service - then my wife started working from home as a telecommuter. Trying to keep her VPN connection online was a chore. I started monitoring the connection pretty much 24/7 and it was dropping packets everywhere - about every three hours the connection would simply drop completely for up to 15 minutes. Keeping the VPN connection alive for more than an hour at a time was an amazing achievement.

The Charter personnel in Cookeville were very helpful but unfortunately before you can get them to do anything you have to jump through hoops with the corporate support folks who were simply terrible to deal with. After two months of troubleshooting we finally canceled the service as Charter was unable to provide us a stable connection.

Porn....Porn...porn to be alive.

The speed or bandwidth caps are much easier to market than consistency which I think is a lot more important.

Ever since they revamped the networks in central NJ, the consistency in the speeds of downloads have been tremendously good even at peak times. 5 years ago it was a different story. 5mbs in the morning than 0.5-1.3mbs in the afternoon.

Nice!

Thanks for the link! :beer::thumbsup:

Yeah. If I only understood what half of it was saying. "DNS resolver port randomization: OK" I know what DNS is, but randomizing it?
