Just upgraded from an Antec 1040 to Corsair 650D - Thoughts

Hey all,

I've finally changed cases, it only took 10 years. My old Antec has been through god knows how many builds. From a Northwood P4 to an Athlon XP to an Athlon 64 s754 to a s939 and finally an i7 920 which I'm on now.

I have to say, this is a really nice case. Using the 1040 I had so many problems trying to cable manage properly. Plus the fact that I was using 4x80mm fans spinning at stupid levels didn't help with noise.

On the 650D I was able to cable manage like a boss with minimal time. I'm not too worried about a super clean look but airflow is very important to me. As long as my pc stays cool and stable I'm pretty happy. Moving from 4x80mm fans to 2x200m and rear 120mm is fantastic.

My only issue is that the fan controller when set to low or medium causes this strange vibration to come from the fans. I'm not sure exactly what it is but I have the fans on full right now and it's a million times quieter than my 1040 ever was. The fan controller issue seems to be a common problem, it doesn't really bother me and I'd rather leave my fans on high anyway.

I am also able to move the case down to the floor knowing that I can easily clean the dust filters unlike before... where the case was up on a table and I'd still have to clean it at least every 6 months.

Below are some pics of the case and my current workspace;

Cheers!

Thats actualy a defect that the earlier models share. You can go to their website and send an rma request for a new linear fan controller if you would like. Their customer service is top notch in my humble opinion.

Yea I just read that on the Corsair forums after posting. I'll e-mail them and ask. Unfortunately my case is all done up with somewhere to go. So I may just leave it. To be frank it's so much quieter than my old case that on high I think my workspace is too quiet now lol. I feel auditorily naked 🙂

Yeah, I was heart-broken when I had to return a 650D that I was going to build for my brother. Very nice case. Better than the 800D I have!

There's a fan fix, check their website and search for fan fix. I just ordered it at 0$ for 0$ shipping. I hope fixing it isn't difficult as my system is already up and running by you know what, the case is fantastic and I can suck it up. They're making good and sending a fixed part.

Yeah, I knew about this a while ago 🙂

Corsair is EXCELLENT with customer support. I had accidentally broke off the hot-swap drive bay cover.. told them on monday, part arrived thursday..

Yep. I've also emailed them about a windowless 650D panel. Not that it really matters but I just prefer a sleek black look.

very nice, i thought about going with the 650 but decided to go with the cheaper 600T which is also very nice.

What speakers are you using?

Are the side panels interchangeable? i.e. does the left panel fit on the right and vice versa?

You know.. I think they are. I'm probably going to get an email reply informing me that I'm a pylon and I can order another back panel lol 🙂

Let me know what they say, I am interested in the 650D but prefer no window if possible. I'm assuming you're in Canada so I'm curious what they will charge for it + shipping.

Interesting, let us know about the shipping cost if you do order one from Canada.

Prices to my downtown Toronto office;

UPS

UPS Worldwide Expedited $96.22
UPS Worldwide Express $109.04

Flat Rate 7-10 days

UPS Worldwide Expedited $39.00

Guess I'm keeping the window 😀

For those types of prices, I'd be tempted to buy another case just for the panel alone - then try to sell the spare case with two windows 😀

Lol can you imagine a side window on the back? It would just be cables everywhere.

Wow, might want to email Corsair (or contact redbeard, I think he posts on these forums? He is on [H]). They've had problems with excessive shipping charges to Canada in the past that needed to be corrected in their web store.
