Just upgraded from an 8800gt to a 4870, can I combine them?

I thought it used to be possible, 'til NV decided that it can dictate what the owners of their card can do with their own property, and locked that function out on purpose. Not sure if there's a work around or not.

thanx guys, I'll try the workaround when I get a chance. Sounds like a bit of a pain but we'll see how it turns out.

Is that workaround for PhysX to run on the CPU?

You can get your 8800GT to run with your 4870 and enable PhysX if you use drivers that are older than 186.xx. That's what I did and I had it running on Batman demo, Cryrostasis, etc. You have to connect either a 2nd monitor or just connect to another input on your main monitor with the nVdia card and then span the displays. You can then enable PhysX. The nV control panel kept crashing for me so I just enabled GPU PhysX in the registry.

So much effort, heat, and power to play next generation titles like Batman: Arkham Aslyum.

Yeah I stopped using it. There just isn't much incentive to use PhysX right now. I played the AA demo with PhysX and then the PS3 version and I didn't feel like I was missing anything (in fact I think Cryostasis is probably a better demo of what it can add to a game than Arkham)...I finished the game on the PS3 and won't be buying it on PC.

To the OP...try it but I doubt you'll be impressed enough to stick with it.

Ha, I thought you were kidding at first given how much shit nVidia got for locking out the ability for their cards to be used in exactly this way.

It's a patch that removes the limitation in the newer drivers.

IMO it's not worth the extra heat and power usage to keep the card in the machine for one title.

So you can use newer drivers than 186 and still have it work?
