Just upgraded from 9600 Pro to 6800GT and 2D speeds are much slower

When I'm browsing the internet with my new 6800GT I've noticed that websites that have lots of pictures tend to scroll slowly. The screen will often freeze for half a second when I try to quickly scroll down. This was not a problem on my 9600 Pro. Is there anything I can do to improve 2D speeds, or is this simply an area where ATI really holds an advantage?

I don't think the issue is the graphics card. Its more likely to be a software issue (Windows, IE or whatever browser you're using, or other software). Perhaps not though. Did you clean the old drivers off with Driver Cleaner? Is it a fresh install?

Yep, just reformatted and I'm using Firefox. I've tried using both the official 66.xx and beta 71.xx drivers, along with the VXG drivers.

I have a BFG 6800 running the nvidia 66.93 drivers. I just checked out that url and i get instantaneous image as i scroll down the page.

Can you give us an example website? Whoops didn't see your later post until just now. I'll try it on my 6800 GT a little later.

Reinstalled the official drivers (and yes I did use Driver Cleaner) and it didn't seem to help.

Would it make a difference if my display drivers are on a different hard drive than Windows?

I just tryed the link above and it happens to me too on my 6800 GT, but only in Firefox. The same site in IE scrolls smoothly. On my other computer with a 9700 Pro, I get smooth scrolling with both IE and Firefox. It does look like a specific app/video card issue.

Just tried the site in IE, works great for me too. Heh, this has got to be the first time IE has outperformed Firefox.

I'm going to try contacting Nvidia about this.

ghetto p3 550 384 mb sd ram (pc 100) 6 gig crusty hdd, and a 4 integrated video card ati rage soemthing or other and it works fine.... oh yeah i have a fried usb port which is integrated too..... gladd i didnt pay 4 bills for choppy scrolling!

LOL..I got flamed in another thread for a remark I said about slow 2d performance with my 6800..and guess what..I am right 🙂
I went to that website as well and through the three pictures it did scroll a little slow. My 9700 pro I had before didn't have that issue what so ever through any webpage, FF or IE.
