hey guys

ok basically last night i was reading around and saw the 6800 volt mod thread in here

i was asking some ppl at ocau about ther 6800nu's and how they got really impressive scores out of it

and then a fair bit of msn convos and research later i had downloaded the latest version of rivatuner (15.5)

i did everything your were meant to and OMFG it worked - i was so excited

(btw i unlocked both the 4 pipelines and the vertex shader :D)

my previous 3d03 scores were around 8200 and i then ran 3d03 again and i got a score of 9000 stock ! this is everything stock (ram cpu and so on) - i also ran 3d05 and got a score of 3700 and i think previously i got aorund 3100 - so im happy in that respect

so thats a fairly good gain for me

ok now here are two problems that arised after i had done the softmod

1) everything took a fair bit longer to load up - when running the 3d03 tests it took about 2x longer then usual . this also happened in 3d05 . i know that it takes awhile to generate a score for 3d05 but this time it took forever - it got really scary/frustrating .... is it possible that my harddrvie is slowly stuffing up ??

2) when going into the Nvidia display thingi and trying to use coolbits to overclock - it basically wont let me . even if i increase core by 1 mhz and test it - it still says it is unstable. just to confirm something might be wrong. i tested the core clock at 250mhz (325 stock) and yet the error message still came up. i then tried the rivatuner overclocking tool yet i still got the same message

this is really annoying...because id rather have 12 pipelines and 5 vertex shaders but be able to OVERCLOCK!!!

i havent tried powerstrip because my trial has run out but im thinking if i did it should still work

any help plz ???

btw everytime i run a 3dmark test all my other components are stock

i might try a volt mod later but ill figure this out first

Overclock the card first, with the pipes locked, then unlock it with the overclock already set.

Way to sneak the poll in there. :)

I'd say benchmark the card both ways - modded at stock speeds, and unmodded at overclocked speeds, and then use whichever gives you highest scores. Also, do you have adequate cooling, are the temps ok? Run rthdribl and look for artifacts (trust me, you'll see them sooner than using programs like atitool).

Another thing to try is to bump up your AGP voltage if your bios has the option. I OC'd my card, and raising it from 1.5 to 1.6 helped me overcklock higher without artifacts.

Did you reinstall different drivers too? I would imagine the 6800 and the 6800gt use different drivers, I know I had to reistall drivers when I flashed my 9800p to a 9800xt.

Actually the drivers are the same and his card is still the same as far as Windows is concerned, its still a 6800nu. Drivers shouldn't affect overclockability to my knowledge, anyone know for sure?
