Hey guys and gals. My PC is an AMD Athlon 2.17ghz 1.5gb of ram. Its a 166fsb (MSI KT3 Ultra2) motherboard with an Geforce ti4200 128mb AGP card.

How much do i have to spend? I allready have a DVDrw so i dont "need" another.

I was thinking a dell XPS PC? I want something silent. I dont need a monitor also. I have a 19" LCD

why don't you build your own? i imagine you already have the software you need.

Building your own is by far the best option, that way you can get what you need.

There little point in upgrading your exsisting computer as you'll pretty much have to upgrade everything.

If you are looking for a pre-built system then you should be looking for a system using a AMD processor as they have an advatage in most benchmarks espically gaming.

There are a zillion rig threads, try reading a few:

Socket 939, PCI-E, 7800GT, 2 GB RAM, beefy PSU, A64 3200+ / 3500+ / X2 3800+ .......

i'm not sure on the case (although i know some will recommend the p180) or the psu (again, you'll get many recommendations here) but on the rest, this is what i would get:

cpu: amd 3200+ or opteron 146
mobo: really depends on whether you'll be OCing and what you're looking for. the epox non-SLI board is a good choice
gpu: 6800gs or 7800gt if your budget allows
ram: 2gb of value ram. Corsair or XMS. if you want better ram, get g.skill
hard drive: Western Digital 250gb SE16 (the 16mb cache one)

you'll have about $150 left over for case and psu

If you go here

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do

then change the processor to a 3700, select 1GB of RAM, HP 19" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor and the 6600 Nvidia Graphics card. Total price $1059 Although the graphcis card would still be a little weed, it might be better to get the system with the 6200 and then sell it on ebay and replace it with an aftermarket graphics card such as the 6800GS which costs about $200 on new egg.

Please note that the actual price is $1259 but you get a $200 mail rebate.

With the Q4 patch giving such an improvement for dual-cores, I can't understand why any of you would recommend anything other than an X2 3800 or Opty 165.

CPU: X2 3800 - $280 / XP-90 + Fan - $40
GPU: 7800GT - $280 / Zalman VF-700Cu - $30
RAM: 2x1GB - $200
Case: Antec P180 - $130
PSU: Rosewill 450W - $40
Motherboard: Epox 9NPA+ Ultra - $105

Total: $1065

Extremely quiet / huge OC potential (will do X2 4600+ at least)
If you need a new HDD, you'll have to drop to 1GB of RAM

very easy, a 6600gt for ~100 bucks will pull off q4.. no fsaa though. a 6800gs is more fancy..i think theres an agp? depends what resolution you want i guess. 1024x768=6600gt easy at high settings. higher..well then the gs or whatever. other games like cod2 or fear can only be set to medium on a 6600gt + 2.2ghz athlon or so

oh i see u have a 19", so i guess gs it is. to take full advantage of higher end cards you should also upgrade to the a64... maybe a p180+seasonic or /sonata/p150 ..silent cases. so i guess you can either choose to cheap out and just get a 6600gt for pretty good performance(esp in q4) and wait a while longer to milk value out of your system, or splurge for a full system.

and dell xpc not generally well regarded. this has a bit on dell in general.. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=OTI0

thanks every1. Im considering building my OWN Pc again. I have built a few with no problems. But you all know some custom built PCs can be a nightmare.

I really only need

CPU =300?
RAM =200
HD =150
GPU =200
CASE =100

Does that look right ?

Hey Surg thanks allot! that looks like just what i need.

Its weird though. Its still just 400mhz on the Cpu side faster. But im sure the 64 bit and cache and FSB makes it super fast!

The main performance gain will be your graphics card, I recon it probally about 7times faster than your current.

If the X2 3800+ is just $40 more, I don't understand why you'd want to get the San Diego.

On neweggg, the 3800 X2 is $100 more, well...$98 to be exact.

Change the processor to an X2 and the video card to a 7800GT and that'll make a nice rig.

Lotust, if you can scrounge up another $200, then adding an X2 and the 7800GT would be good for that extra cash. Otherwise my $1000 rig still stands.
