This kind of shite always happens whenever i do anything minor with my computer hardware, everything just goes to hell for no reason. Just tried to install a floppy drive on my computer, everything looked fine, tried to boot up and it gave me the "Error loading OS" message, that didn't make any sense, so i tried it again, got the same message. I took out the floppy drive, made sure everything else was in place, booted up again, and what do you know, the Error Loading OS message. FFFFFUUUUUU.....

This does not make any sense, everything is just how it used to be, and it's detecting all the drives fine. A baseball bat is going to smash my computer several times if i don't get help soon. Thanks for loooking.

You can send me your Opteron prior to doing the bashing but have you tried to see if the BIOS boot order was changed since you added the FDD?

It's nothing dumb like you unplugged some power cables or something when installing the floppy drive, right?

Reset CMOS yet?

Nope, I unplugged some cables so i could fit it in there but i plugged them back in to the correct places.

Haven't tried resetting the CMOS yet, will try it.

It almost has to be that something was not plugged back in quite right or something was bumped, etc. I'd unplug ALL the cables both data and power and plug them all back in again VERY METHODICALLY. Always plug power plugs in before the data cables - that makes sure the units are grounded.

It's detecting everything. Floppy cable went in the right way.

Good news though, i'm posting this from my actual computer :p - I boot off the XP CD fine, i guess i can just keep doing it this way from now on. Though i still would like to update my bios if possible, my computer doesn't like floppy drives though, maybe there's a way to do it with software or something. So i guess my computer is safe from a major beating for today.

In BIOS I/O page........
make sure FDC controller enabled
red line on floppy cable in pin1 on mobo (left side of black receptacle)
its also very easy to shift data cable or power plug one notch off at floppy
and at the floppy rear, red line data faces red cable on power molex

If you really need a floppy and don't want to get bothered about getting inside your unit, use a USB floppy drive. They can also be used as boot drive although nowadays it's mostly CD rom's we use. As for your hdd, is that a SATA? Make sure the first boot order is either SATA or SCSI. If the problem persists, you could have corrupted the MBR or master boot record. You can fix this using XP Cd Recovery console.
