My Lx700's 'click cordless mouse wasn't cutting it' . its shape is very bad for my hand, so i needed to upgrade. i went to local bestbuy. and bought mx1000, G5, and G7 . rep said return the ones you don't like and i had little room on my card ;)

i should point out that i'm not hardcore gamer, I rarely play BF2, I used to play CS 24/7 litterally, but it's been more than half a year since i pressed 'b + 4 + 6' to buy the awp . lol

initial skeptism that wireless lags compared to wired one is almost shattered by this G7. I installed all 4 mice, and is moving one mouse at a time. I could barely notice difference between g5 and g7. Mx1000 OTOH, lags a little.

on the fly dpi change works well for me. you can setup upto 5 dpi settings.

as far as i can tell, shape of the g5 and g7 are same, only difference is the texture of the mouse. g5 being rough, and g7 being shiny and sleek.

mx1000 otoh, with its laser, is good, but compared with g7, it doesn't have a chance.

the best thing about g7 that won the battle for me is that it doesn't have the ac charger. battery charges from USB power!!!! no more big bulky charging adapter! and battery charger has 'normal' and 'boost' mode . i figured it would be for charging the battery, if you need the quick charge (how clever!!)

g5/g7 line is really the best mouse i've ever used. corded or cordless, logitech got it covered.

Both the G5 and G7 are laser mice if I'm not mistaken.

Never knew that about the G7 though (no AC adapter). Not a big deal for me now, but back when I was planning on lugging my laptop to and from work, it would've been very nice (of course the G7 wasn't even announced back then).

Nice little comparison.

Oh, and personally, I would be skeptical of returning to Best Buy, seems like a lot of people have problems with returns, and they might charge you a restocking fee.

Re-stocking only applies to certain high turnover items like digital cameras for example.

Speaking of returning stuff at BestBuy. For the SoCal people in Burbank, theres a used Logitech MX518 in a G5 box on the shelf. Just by looking at the mouse you can tell it's used. It's got stuff in between gaps and the Logitech logo started to fade. I don't know how this stuff passes the returns department.

Actually, official BB policy is that mice and a lot of other items don't go back on the shelf once they are returned. That mouse shouldn't have even been put back up there. There isn't much rhyme or reason to BB's checking of returned items, per policy all returns for electronics that have been opened it has to go past the Geek Squad guys to confirm that it is the correct product and that it hasn't been damaged. I know because I used to be the guy having to inspect that crap. You won't have any problems returning mice. There is no restocking fee on them. The return policy is very explicity stated on the back of every receipt you get from BB.

What happens when you find something else in the box? Do you guys call the customer back? I mean that thing was pretty nasty looking...

My first LED based mouse was a logitech Dual Optical. It had two LCD's and sensors, and was the most accurate mouse at the time. I loved that mouse. The only mice that have felt right after that one were the MX-51x and Gx series.

The MX-51x's are the same shape and size as the Gx's. All great mice imho.

Glad you're liking your G7. I recently picked up the G5 and am extremely happy with it as well.

I have MX1000. I like it but it is a bit heavy for me. How is the G7, is it heavy? Does it glide over mousepad easily? What bout G5 cord? Is it the regular plastic cord or it is made by some other material? Your input is greatly appreciated. (So far, I haven't seen any of the G series on display in any of the major computer retail stores in Chicagoland. That's why I need somebody's input)

Thanks

The G5 cord isn't the standard cord. It seems to be a fabric wrapped thing. The G5 also comes with Weights so you can tune it to what works best for you.

yes, g5 cord is really awesome ( away from regular cord). and the weight thing is pretty slick.

g7 is MUCH lighter than mx1000 . and it glides very well thanks to same pad as g5.

Thank you for your answers. Would you pick G7 or G5? Wireless or not is not a really big deal. Money maybe. Which one would you pick?

On my gaming mouse pad, I have a MX1000 and MX518. When I'm not gaming, I use the MX1000 b/c it has so many buttons that you can program that it makes life so much easier when surfing and stuff. And obviously, I use the MX518 for gaming. I've found the adjustable sensitivity to make life a little easier in FPS games. No issues w/ both plugged in the same time. It's a little bit of a strange set-up but it comes in handy.
