I never said lower quality. Greenworks is who makes the Kobalt mowers. https://www.greenworkstools.com/shop-by-tool/mowers?p=4 They get really good reviews.

I was just saying it's not having to drive power to the wheels and is only a 19" cut. It probably comes up to speed in under a second too, but it's not the same as a gas powered engine by any means. I'm not using the side discharge due to flower beds and instead and using the mulching option. That and the it being a 40v mower are likely the difference since most of them now have 48v-60-80v. More voltage likely makes the difference if you're going up against thicker grass, but I know it'd never be able to handle the zoysia grass that's out at my lake property. It's like mowing shag carpeting out there.
I didn't say you said it was lower quality, I'm the one who said that :p
And yeah, I guess I missed that it was self-propelled, that would definitely put a heavier load on the battery. Self-propulsion never seemed like that much of a boon when I did have it.

My Kobalt mower is pretty good. I have the high end 80 volt version and it cuts well enough. Only issue is it takes two full batteries to do my lawn. But that gives me a little break when I swap out.

Mine isn't self propelled...it's a little 40v that isn't. Compared to a Ryobi riding mower, however, I was saying that beast probably would be better off if you just install a power pole in the middle of your lawn and power it with a wire whip from overhead. :D

Ryobi? Be prepared to be disappointed. It may work well when it's new...but my experience with Ryobi power tools is that they don't hold up well.

I'm with someone...the "future" would be one of these:

3 year reviews on YouTube have been very positive. Several are still mowing an acre with 60% charge left and 0 issues.

Fock being outside for 2 hours straight in weather that feels like 115.
It's not THAT bad if you've got some shade occasionally and a ride-on mower.

I've been mowing a fair bit lately and have had to put in some 4-5 hour days occasionally and a break every 60-90 minutes for ~10-15 minutes + regular sunscreen applications and it's not too bad.

I wouldn't want to be using a push mower though. Even a self-propelled mower would be a pain.

Sadly I don't think we can replace our mower with a new electric one anytime soon, ours is 6 wheeled, 72" cutting deck diesel-powered commercial mower. Anything comparable new would run around $15-20k+.

Is that an automotive charger? Would be hilarious pulling up to a public charging station with that lol. That's awesome though, it's cool to see more electric products like this.
I'd be mowing the lawn even if it does not need to be done just to take it for a spin. :p

It's a blast. Drove it around the yard a bit- it's completely silent with the blades off. Gets going around 7mph. It's like a combo Segway and golf cart LOL

It's almost identical to the golf cart chargers I've seen at country clubs. Same plug and everything.

Home Depot sells them exclusively. They had a package for Father's Day that included the mower and the bagger for $600 off, so it came to $3850 with free ship to home. Took about a week to get here. So far I'm impressed with the build quality in the areas that count- the front casters are reinforced, the deck is decent and has balance controls, it comes with a tow and mulching kit, and the seat is adjustable & very comfortable. Will be taking it out for a cut either tonight or tomorrow.

Sounds awesome man congrats! That's really not a bad price for a zero turn I think we spent more than that a couple of years ago when we bought our Hustler ZTR at work.
Anyway, when you get the chance let us know how it cuts.

Congrats Fritzo! Hope you enjoy it.

I wish I had enough grass to need something like that. But, I live on a postage stamp with less lawn than @highland145. That part of downsizing sucks.

I don't know that reference, but I'm sure it's funny mr. manahan...

City lots are around .2 Acres - house & parking == small lawn. Down sizing was a bummer in some regards. Over the course of around 6 weeks; prices on more expensive on larger homes (like our 2100 sqft house + 1/2 acre + oversized two car garage) were dropping while smaller houses (our 1700 sqft house +.2 acres + no garage) were going up. Couldn't find a house in the area with a garage without adding +$60K to the cost of this house; bizzaro world. We were thinking of building a garage this year... hahahaha!

Rough year to decide to build a garage!
My new place is 1/3 acre, but fortunately not much of it is grass, mostly trees and shrubs and stuff.

If I had the $$, I'd go artificial. I've spent thousands on that piece of dirt over the last 25 years. Mole crickets have had a field day and most of it looks like shit. Lawn guy said it would be $8-9K to re sod with zoyisa

Don't know if I do that (odd thing to do up in NH). But, my lawn has really taken a beating over the past 3 years. Must have had a lot of grubs, since I had a bunch of mole hole one spring. They destroyed the lawn. I've lost my fight with crab grass, dandelions, violets and even some moss in the front yard (WTH!, is it too dry or too wet?). Depending on how much success my neighbor has this year, I'm going to try raking with a stiff rake and reseed, etc. Sod is just too expensive for damn grass.

frigging autocorrect. It’s raking not racking

Dandelions are great. One place I rented a hundred years ago had a backyard that was almost 100% dandelions. It was amazing. It would go from a carpet of yellow flowers to a carpet of puffs. I wish my yard was like that now.
