DSL Reports have been constantly claiming that Team AnandTech challenged them to this race. I didn't remember it that way. Sometimes if a story gets repeated over and over and is not challenged, the story becomes accepted as fact. We see that in politics all the time. I have been in communication with Engineer about this topic and I want to place this on the table so everyone on our TeAm is aware of the true beginnings of this race.

Let me refer all of you to this thread on the DSL Reports Seti Forum: Greeting from Team AnandTech

I have just sent this PM to Engineer and decided to just make it public for informational purposes to our whole Team.

OK, I had to wade through a lot of posts but there near the end of the 2nd Page was the first mentioning of a race....They challenged us!

>In response to Engineer-TA
As the WU production is so very similar between the two teams (as is the camaradare of the members) I think we should race for the next 1K units for two reasons :

1) WE WILL WIN ! (we have yet to not met any challenge)
2) It will help us pass our next victim Hewlett-Pakcard.

And, if the powers that be on this forum will do it, a change can be the "Cool Graphs" to show the new race.

If everyone is agreement then I will issue the challenge to Anandtech

I thought I had remembered this correctly.

So now that the origins of this race are dusted off and clear.... let us move on!

All is definitely not lost. We have increased our strength dramatically over the last two weeks. As others have similarly written, we need to tuck our chins into our chest, eyes up focusing ahead, and suck it up. Let's each do what we do the best. Make sure your computer is running at its most efficient level. Make sure the SETI client is operating properly. Build and enhance your own personal computer or computers. Assimilate new mini-team members if you have developed one. Help with the recruiting right here in the AnandTech Forums. Be prepared to assist the influx of new members with help and suggestions to get them up and running at their optimal best settings. Let each and everyone of us give it our best!

Now let's get back to work!

Ahh, it's no biggie to me as far as who challenged who. One team challenged, the other accepted. Either way, we've got a good race going and I don't see any problems so far. We're a little behind, okay more than a little, but we can make it up...

All we need is for cobra to join us... ;)

When we use the tag, "We have been challenged......", we are telling it like it is.

Let's make sure we include it in our recruiting efforts. It is an effective message when trying to enlist support. ;)

OK, I'm not a SETI guy so I may not know what I'm talking about, but when I look at the SETI stats I see:

9) Team AnandTech 992269
10) DSL Reports 799960

I'm using the URL: SETI Club stats

It seems like TA has a sizable lead, yet the latest mood is that we've fallen behing DSL Reports. I'm a looking at the wrong stats? Even though I don't do SETI, I'd still like to follow the team - where should I be looking for stats?

What would be the average WU time for a dual Pentium-3 1 GHz?

kmmatney - The race to 100,000. The first team to generate 100k wu's from the designated starting date wins the race. We would LOVE to have your 1GHz P3 crunching for the TeAm! Please join us. :) It should be good for about 4 wu's per day (6 hr/wu).

There where several posts regarding the challenge of the Race..I would agree that DougFowler made first mention of it..then both teams seemed to take it as read that a challenge had been issued..by who is actually irrelevent.

Smokeball, I think you making it look as if it is an issue for DSLR is unhelpful. I have not read any posts where it is made to be an issue. I think you are interpreting statements about the challenge Literally as oppose to what is implied. I think most people would take it that both teams accepted the challenge, therefore it is unimportant as to who "issued" the challenge.

As you are aware people sometime refer to things in writing from the easiest stand point..this is almost certainly the case.

Please don't create as issue where none exist..it detracts from the race and will only serve to annoy members of both teams, this will damage the team spirit in both, harm the race, and harm the S@H project as a result.

To paraphrase Forest Gump..."And that is all I have to say about that" :)

ETHunter,

The point of my post is to encourage my own team members to use the "they challenged us" to help rally support. I've pointed this out in the this thread. You know you all (at DSLR) have made a lot of recruiting posts claiming "we have been challenged" in order to recruit more members to the fray. I have no problem with DSLR continuing to use that phase. I want to encourage Team AnandTech recruiters to use the same language...because it is effective.

I will reword my leadoff post to make it more clear that I'm not trying to make an issue of who challenged who. ;)

It's been a while since that post was made about the challenge. Guess I never paid any attention to "who" actually made the challenge. Yup, using the "we've been challenged" phrase is a great rally cry. Hope it works out for you because the real winner will be SETI (if they get their stats fixed, that is). It's been a great race so far.

BTW, shouldn't you shorten your posts a little so that SETI can use those CPU cycles? :) :)

Onward and upward!

Actually, the long posts are really part of the plan to slow down DSLR. All of you are wasting a lot of your CPU time reading all of this. :D

Reading takes less CPU cycles than posting :)

The battle is interesing. It's neat to look at the other side and see what they are working on!
