I will start off by telling you I am middle class and white. The majority of my district is also middle class and white. My district generally votes republican.
Polling for my district takes place in a small civic center building. Hanging on the wall inside of the civic center is a sign giving maximum occupancy for the building. It is 125 people. Last night, there were at least 350 people in this building. To go along with that, the parking lot holds a maximum of about 40 cars. Obviously with 350 people, there were many more cars than that. Many people, along with myself, were forced to park on the side of the road so we could go inside to wait in the 1 1/2 hour long line.
Now before you go off telling me I should have early voted, etc., don't. I knew what I was going to get into, and I expected to wait. What I didn't expect (nor did the 100 other people parked on the side of the road) was to come out and find a parking ticket on my vehicle.
Can you believe the tenacity of our local PD? They had a cop going up and down the street (which is not a through-fare) writing tickets to people who were parked on the side of the road.
Luckily, after much fuss from all of us, the cop removed all the tickets. But the fact that he would be so stupid as to do something like that upsets me.
Did anyone else have voting issues such as these last night?
