Just to let you all know: Seti@home doesn not send WUs

I do not know if seti@home got their new server or not, but it is very hard to get new WUs.

As usually: patience is the best medication, and as all medications, not without side effects: WU-withdrawal syndrome ...

The symptoms:
1. Checking the queue ever so often.
2. Watching the number of waiting WUs drop
3. Getting a lower level of WU-anxiety
4. Increased heart rate due to stress
5. Injured hands due to keyboard pounding
6. Skin damage due to crossed fingers and other useless small movements
7. Typing errors when posting useless posts in the forums
8. Paranoic thoughts: it only my - they want to get ahead of me - my stats are falling and I'll drop out from the top-10 000 list ...
9. Screaming at the family in frustration
10. Alcoholic intoxication ...
11. There are also some 10 or so other, less common signs ...

The cure: get a back-up project ... 😉

BTW: I'll be soon running of of WUs too - MalariaControl, watch out - demand for WUs will increase soon!

 thanks for the heads up Petrus🙂

My SETI fleet are all remote these days, so nothing I can do about it.
Though I could add a 2nd project to BOINC....

lol @ dajeepster. try step #10, that usually helps me to relax 😉 you guys should set your computers to store a couple of days' worth of wu's. I got so mad last fall when they had a few server outages that I started having the computer store 4 day's worth of wu's. I've never lost a moment since. 🙂🙂

just checked the seti@home site. here's the skinny:

April 14, 2008
We continue to have workunit storage server problems but hope to have the machine replaced today (but may not have it on line until tomorrow). Until this new system is in place workunit downloads will be disabled.

today is april 15, a tuesday, so they must be using the regularly scheduled outage to get it back up and running.

I'm telling you guys, especially the ones who crunch a LOT, that you should run a minimum of 4 days to plan for outages like this. It's not seti's fault that they don't get a tone of federal funding the way a lot of other DC programs do, they're just bustin their asses to do the best they can with what they have.

I have 🙂 ,or near to anyway.

I've had a cache of WUs since the very early days of the text version of SETIQ back at the end of '99😉 ......*sigh* I miss the graphical version of that program with its WU time stats, client stats, webserver & pretty sky map😉 ,RAC is meaningless in comparision 🙁.I've been running BOINC SETI for over 2yrs now & I still don't really get it & still don't know how to benchmark it properly (built in one is useless).Or be able to make at least a rough estimate of how fast a rig would crunch a typical WU.
I was going to grab a 'typical AR' WU to benchmark my rig on as starters, but even finding the AR of 1 WU is fiddly, god knows how to find out what most WU ARs are!, anyone know how to check multiple WU ARs?

I agree, and I have "4 days" of WUs - but somehow these WUs ended after 3 - 3½ days ...

This was not intended as a slur on seti - just a heads-up for those who may run out of WUs ...
I have been crunching seti since the classic days, and know that the outages nowadays are much less disturbing then those some 4 - 5 years ago. Those could last for 4 - 7 days and thats why we had SetiQueue 😉 which could store many WUs in one place and from which many comps could download their work.
Those were the days ... I do and do not miss them.

True I don't miss the large outage servers used to have 😉, do you remember the massive outage due to their pipe being cut by workers? (in 2001 maybe?) ,wasn't that for nearly 2 weeks?:Q ,I recall that I had just 1 days WUs left when it came back!

Yeah, that one I remember. I got some WUs from somebody's SetiQ ... because I did not have any left after 10 days ...

I am so happy that those days are over - and now we "oldies" can hang out in the pub with a pint of bitter and tell the younger crunchers about the "good old days" 😉

The 'good' I was refering to was the easy point scoring system & the ease of benchmarking😉, like this

I don't miss the outages or cheaters!😛

I've heard about this "cheating" thing, but I don't really understand it. Who was cheating? What happened to them? WHY were they cheating in the first place?

I can't say I get the point either, some sad idiots with a childish ego I suppose.
We did have one cheater ourselves many years(4-6yrs?) ago (Cobra), after we found out we hounded him out of here😛 (where he went back to S@NL & they sadly suffered from his cheating).
I don't remember who the cheaters were but they either had their accounts completely zeroed or they had any duplicate results zeroed, sometime in early 06.IIRC out of the top 10 teams only 2 didn't have any results removed, we were one of them & as a result we gained 2 places.🙂
