Hi.

I'd just like to be sure about the choice I'm making.

I'm helping a friend to build a system for internet browsing, and text editing. Something basic in other words. No gaming at all.

He chose much of all the needed parts he knew he could afford, and heard about.

Then I told him I would verify about compatibilites.

He says he can buy up to a Pentium Celeron D 320 (Socket 478) 2.4 Ghz, with 533 Mhz FSB.

And the guy at his local store told him he could get the ASUS P4P800-VM (Socket 478).

On ASUS' webs-site, it says that specific Motherboard supports 800 Mhz FSB Pentium IV CPUs.

So, right now I'm thinking it means it supports, in fact, FSB speeds from 400 Mhz to 800 Mhz. Am I right ? Or it actually means it "only supports" 800 Mhz FSB CPUs ?

yes, it will run 533. and btw, if interested i have that with a P4 2.4c for sale, pm me if interested.

But it's alright, he already knows what he wants, and to be honnest, he doesn't like second hand products. Must be brand new or nothing with him when it comes to pretty much everything.

well he is getting a rock solid board. he might want to look into a soundcard though if he hasn't already, the onboard pretty much stinks, but thats normal. it's a nice board.

Yeah that's what the seller at his local store told him. Especially for the integrated graphics (Intel Extreme Graphics 2), since he really doesn't want to shell out money for a GPU. As for the on-board sound, I think it'll be alright for him, at least for a while. He has a very good 7.1 sound system for music anyway. I think the only thing we'll hear from his PC is Windows when it logs in the Desktop. And 6 channels for that is plenty 🙂
 
Got that board for my parent?s second computer and its great! I got it at Newegg refurbished for 30 bucks. I know he doesn?t like second hand but it Newegg and they will take care of you if anything goes wrong.
