Just to be sure I'm understanding....

Ok, this whole 12v rail thing... here's the situation:

Corsair vx550w psu, powering i5, 1 HDD, 1 DVD, and an HD5870. The VX has one 12v rail @ 41amp, with 1 x 6pin and 1 x 6+2pin. SO my question is, I would just pop those 2 plugs into both spots on the 5870 (I'm assuming it doesn't matter the order of the 2) and the other cables routed as usual?

I guess my concern was could one 6pin supply enough juice being rated @ the 41amps, or do I need to plug both in? Just don't want to fry anything...and I know you guys are the best so figured I'd ask.

Just plug them in, order doesn't really matter since a 550W has far more than enough juice for the whole system.

Compare that to my system of a X1800XT/4870/5770 with a OCed E6300/Phenom II on a mere Cooler Master 380W and it works perfectly fine after all these 4 years.

If the graphics card requires two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, then you need two plugged two in.

When you're talking about 41 Amps on the 12V rail, that 41 Amps is being supplied to the entire computer. A single 6-pin PCIe power connector only supplies 60 W (5A @ 12V).

You need both cables plugged into the video card. Otherwise the video card could be damaged, that is if you're even able to boot without one of the plugged in.

What 12v rail thing? There is no rail thing. You're making it much more difficult than it is.
