I did some testing on my alpha pal with sanyo denki fan. Normally i get temps around 30 degrees idle and 40 to 42 under load(games). But i have 1 120 mm fan and 1 80mm fan comin in. And 3 80 mm fans suckin out on top so my system temps are very low (18 to 19 degrees). I am usin a addtronics 7896.
Now what i wanted to test was the effect that system temps had instead of heatsink tests as many people seem to think that if they have a good heatsink they will get great temperatures for overclocking.
What i found by shutting off the 120mm in the front and 2 of the 80 mm in the back was that my system temp went up by 8 degrees and my cpu temp went up by over 10 degrees.
This is probably not only temperature involved but airflow in the case.
What i am trying to put across to alot of guys lookin for good heatsinks is that a good case(cooling) is just as important as any heatsink and most people seem to overlook that.
My tests were by no means scientific but do illustrate a good example as my room temp is always about 18 degrees celsius.
So go get some good case cooling before you expect some great results cause if you just read a review on a heatsink and expect those temps you could be sorely mistaken.
Hope this is not a post that has been done too many times before as it was just to clear up some new guys ideas on what to spend money on.
My 2 cents
