i've bought a netbook for taking with me to classes and an ssd to speed up things some and make me not worry about damaging the hard drive with constantly picking it up. the hard drive that comes with the netbook I was thinking of putting in an old P4 I'm using as a fileserver (usb2 externals for storage), using it to replace the dvd drive that died in it. I'm currently looking at a sata to ide adapter so i can plug it in without any problems. the only thing is that I don't know exactly what I need. this is what I am looking at and i'm pretty sure its the right thing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119257
i think i need to pass power and the connection to the sata drive, and on the drive side i need to just plug it in, but do i need some sort of 2.5->3.5 drive caddy to make the connectors line up correctly or is that just to make the drive sit nicely? is this the only thing I need to make this work?

The adapter sounds like what you're looking for. You should be able to just plug the drive directly to the adapter. The 2.5" to 3.5" drive caddy is just so you can install it into a 3.5" drive bay (where most desktop HDDs go). It's not necessary, but for a HDD, I would get one to make sure it's secure.
