Just switched to Comcast, new DVR. No Audio.

Hey guys,

We just switched from RCN to Comcast. Everything works as expected (50 mbit internet!), however I'm having issues with the TV in the living room. It is set up so that the audio should be sent via digital out to a receiver, rather than through the TV, but somehow the new DVR (dcx3400) refuses to do this.

I found the manual online (linked below) and I believe that the DVR should be set to L-PCM mode for audio output. That doesn't work and none of the other settings (auto, pass through) work either. I highly doubt this is an issue with the receiver or the wiring, considering the previous DVR worked fine and no cables were unplugged or rearranged when the swap was made.

Any ideas?

To complicate the issue, we actually have this box output to an HDMI splitter. I just fired up the other TV on the system and its audio works fine, which means that the box isn't actually outputting over digital. WTF.

Maybe try setting the digital output to DVI instead of HDMI?

It might then realize that you don't want to send audio over HDMI and it will output via digital optical or digital coaxial.

Tried that actually. The weird thing is that the DVR doesn't seem to be respecting that, because the 2nd TV (which has internal speakers) is still picking up the audio. I still think the DVR might be screwed up, but we realized that the receiver is no longer actually functioning. It's one of those stupid BOSE thingies with a bunch of remote modules hooked up. It can play audio fine to the remote modules, but refuses to play anything to the main speakers. We're pulling our hair out trying to figure out why.

Well... for this reason and others, I's suggest replacing the Bose set if possible.

If you can do an upgrade of the sound system, you could get a receiver what can do audio over HDMI which would hopefully take care of this issue?

The BOSE is a giant piece of shit, however the homeowner has invested lots of money into the system so we're stuck with it.

I haven't had a chance to test the cable again, but we found that one cable was just *barely* disconnected... hence our audio problems.

I hate BOSE.

Sounds like he wasn't using Monster cables. Their gold plated hyper-shielded HD compatible connectors are the best in the universe. It's not too late though, I think Best Buy has them for $110 this week. Hurry!
