Anyone else here use NOD32?

I looked into all the options becuase NAV was conflicting with way too many programs and getting corrupted for some reason.

It was ridiculous so I tried NOD32. It appeared the best all around AV program after reading that schandenfroh antivirus thread and reading that av-comparison.com websites results..

it appears in the most recent test NOD32 picked up 70% of the viruses and the 'almighty' Kaspersky only got 40%.

That combined with NOD32, from user accounts.. using the least resources and slowing down level loads or game loads the least.

Although it was not the absolute lowest in RAM usage, it was still very low (15MB or so) and from the general concensus it appears to be the least intrusive on scanning on app loads.

I've noticed a huge difference in loading Word files compared to NAV05.. and actually opening -anything- is faster.

If theres a better scanner than this beauty.. i'd like to know so i can try it.
I'm mainly concerned with a non-intrusive scanner that doesnt slow down applications.. RAM usage doesnt bother me as long as it doenst bloat out over time

I didnt read any reviews, because I find most pretty incompetant.

I was going for a great scanner that doesnt slow down application loads, so I searched this forum and read all the threads that talked about NOD32.

While you cant believe some people here who havent tried all the AV programs, yet they still are adamant its the greatest.. some guys have, and those people seem to like NOD32.

The reviews seem to like apps like PC Cillin because its cheap and has a large variety of features. Im more concerned with little bloat.

I think the best place to look would be somewhere like Virus Bulletin, the AV comparison sites will tell you how good a product is as far as scanning. Much better than amatuer reviews like Cnet will.

I believe NOD32 hasnt ever missed a "in the wild" virus that VB has thrown at it yet.. which cant be matched by any other AV program in the world.

Its a damn good scanner..

Oh, and I should add-

I scanned after taking NAV off the computer with NOD32 and I had about 8 trojans and viruses on my PC that NAV04 and 05 never saw.

I had a similar experience when taking NAV off and putting Kaspersky on. I don't think one single review can be trusted to put one AV ahead of another, but NAV is surely one of the weaker ones.

Well I've read everything I could get my hands on about AV's now. I've ditched my NIS 2005 (even though I've got 6 months left), and I've purchased NOD32. For my firewall, I've now enable my router's firewall as well as the SP2 firewall (hush up). We'll see how things go :) , but from what I keep reading about NOD32, I think I'm going to stay w/it for a good while.

Thanks for the info.

No problem. I like it too!

On firewalls, I just use the XP firewall.. it works fine. A firewall is a firewall.. as long as it does what a firewall is supposed to do. Its not really a fancy thing like AV having to scan zip files, emails and heuteristics (sp?). You might find something minimally better at best than the SP2 firewall if one was to look for one.
Thats my theory on firewalls. :)
