Just swapped in Nforce2 to replace my Nforce1 mobo on my main SETI rig - am online again!!

The process could have gone a little more smoothly but I suppose anything worth doing is worth a little pain 😉

I had some trouble with the USB devices - I have both USB mouse & keyboard and they didn't want to come up after the system started loading windows the power to the USB devices just went off :|

So I put in a PS2 mouse and finally got to device manager & scanned for new hardware - it found the USB stuff and all started working again.

This Asus A7N8X came without drivers or anything so I didn't have the 3Com driver here, however Windows had a list of 3 com drivers and two of them had the word "integrated" in there so I just tried the first one and it worked!

Now my lan is internet connected again, and after a bit of burn in time I'll see about overclocking this baby 😉

I didn't even have to break out my Win XP cd 😉

oh yeah - it's crunching seti again after a few hours off 😀

Ouch - I installed the Nvidia Nforce driver package as part of this process and just remembered why I didn't like that.
I have a curious bug here that when trying to shut down any office apps it slows the system to a crawl for a few minutes when using the Nforce drivers. If I replace the graphics driver the bug vanishes. (at least it did last time)
So I'm off to find the latest detonators 😉

Hey glad your back!🙂

Btw I forgot to say ,if you have an early bios (pre 1002 ish) ,then you'll need to disable USB mouse to allow you to flash the bios!
I have a PS2 kybrd & USB mouse ,the mouse worked until it went to install the USB drivers!

,fortunatley I managed to slowly navigate around with just the keyboard😉

Inccidently I found the TA stats thread where you joined😉 (check out my thread)

Cool Assim1 - I will take a look at that!

OK, I got and installed the 42.42 detonators and still had the problem with office apps (closing them slowed the system to a standstill)

So I went back to the 41.09 detonator and now all is good 😀

What a weird problem! At least there is a solution to it 😉

Ok, I've bumped the fsb up to 142 (284mhz DDR) and all is currently stable.
I'll see how much more I can get outta this cheap PC2100 ram and my 2400+

Any recommendations there Assim1? I have my ram set at 6-2-2-2 right now, there are a lot of settings in this bios though.

2-2-2-6 is a good setting ,though you'll probably find it'll limit your FSB more than 2.5-2-2-6 will ,your going to need to try both with the different multipliers to see which is fastest.

I've got my Crucial PC2700 at 178MHz CAS 2.5-2-2-6 ,at 2-2-2-6 it wasn't even stable at 170MHz🙁
