I just got the client last night, and joined TA. I'm curious, because I notice that on the team list, its shows that lots of people have average time per work unit of under 10 hours. What kind of processors are these? I have a Duron running at 900Mhz, and I've completed about half of the first work unit, but it has taken nearly ten hours already? Are there some things I need to do in order to speed up the work?

Also, are there any other comments in general?

Thanks 😀

Adam

which client did you download?
the one off the front page?

What kind of mobo and the such

ram all that good stuff🙂

OH YEAH WELCOME TO THE TEAM😀

Welcome to the Team!

You need to set the screen to go blank. This will greatly reduce your wu times. In control panel, open the screen saver applet. Next to the screen saver selector box, there is a properties button, click it and you will see the option to go blank screen. Most people set it to zero, but I usually set it to 1 min so I can get a quick look at the progress.

If you really want to crank out work units, you need to go with what's known as the CLI (command line interface) version of SETI@home. Combine it with an add-on program like SETI driver, the work units will flow like a river on the Duron.

Click the SETI link in my sig for more info on SETI driver, stats, and more. Good Luck!

and this

was where I figured out all my settings for the bios:Q

this is what you need to get for the command line: i386-winnt-cmdline.exe:

As above ,but also weather you run it as a screensaver or background process make sure you minimise the window!.Blanking screen/minimising the window will roughly halve your WU time 🙂

Oh yeah , and WELCOME to the team 😀 ,here's a beer 😉

With a Duron running at 900Mhz, how fast should I be able to complete a work unit (approximately), so that I can have an idea if I have things set up right. I also have an Abit KT7-Raid board, and 128MB Crucial RAM (Cas3 I think).

To answer your question - my average time is in between 6-7 hours (6hours 34 mins.). That is with a P3-600 (Katmai: 512k cache), 192MB PC100 CAS-2.

All Right! I've set up the NT command line client, and my work units are now being done in under 5 hours... 😀 A considerable improvement. I'm on my way up! Those aliens are as good as found 😉

Good to see you've got the command line client going. One question though... Are you using a program to cache WU's? If you've got multiple computers on a network I'd recommend Seti Queue. If you're running a single computer or it's not on a network I'd recommend Seti Driver. The SETI@Home servers are much more reliable than they used to be but they still have an outage every once in a while. Using a WU caching program will make sure your client always has a WU to crunch on.

Welcome to the team! 🙂
