Just spent 4 hours trying to install OSX on my PC ... again

Installing OSX is nearly impossible for me. Every freakin' time I restart my PC, the OSX installer crashes in a different way.

One time it's a root error, then next it's a kernal panic, next it's a sector issue, then a phy not found error. Then if I finally get to the installer screen it freezes after 1 minute and craps up my HDD that I'm trying to install it to.

What pisses me off most is that after two days a research and KNOWING that my hardware/setup is fully compatible, it doesn't work. Like a freakin' curse.


Anyway, the main point of this post is to warn you to stay the f*** away from OSX on your PC. It's a great way to gain some gray hairs and pop a blood vessel in your eye.

OS X is great and runs well on the hardware it was intended to run. you're trying to do something illegal using a hacked version of the OS. why do you expect it to be easy? if you want OS X, but a cheap used mac mini as mcmilljb suggested.

legit+OS X+non-"apple" hardware does not compute.

which install were you trying to use? hit up the apple forum for advice if you haven't

Because it's easier to configure on a limited, known hardware database, unlike Windows/Linux where every possible configuration has to to considered

Sorry you had a bad experience with OSX.
Mine was just the opposite .
I installed OSX on my pc and the install was actually the easiest I have ever done.
It installed and ran better than vista did.

Really no problems running it.

What motherboard & other components?
Note: don't attempt to install if you're using an IDE optical disc or IDE HD, and the IDE controller is JMicron.
For the install disc, I recommend using the Kalyway 10.5.2 version of "hacked Leopard".

To be honest, OSX can really piggy back off Linux in terms of hardware support. One of the benefits of Linux being open source.

Please don't. Then OSX will turn into windows with more bloated crap in there trying to support every piece of hardware under with most support being poor at best. I'm fine with Apple controlling the OS and hardware...

+1 on this. That's why it so much more stable. Because they control all of the aspects that go into each system as far as the hardware goes

Why would I want to install OSX on my PC? I have a OSX on G5, and XP Pro on my PC.

I was nervous about running into something like this, and when I was looking this stuff up on these hackintosh forums, one smartass post convinced me to buy a macbook pro. It went like this:

Q: What's the best way to run OSX? --- This question was asked in the context of running OSX in a typical PC/laptop setup.
A: Buy a Mac.

Not very helpful, but it got me to look at a Macbook Pro, and I ended up with one.
