OLED is already here 🙂 look at your colour mobile screen... 😉 its just too bloody expensive to put into full large screen production at the moment lol.

i saw a thred for a samsung 5ms LCD and just wanted to throw out some info incase anyone wants it...

"Incredilbe Refresh Rates are good arnt they????"

this is abit of a scam to be honest... The LCD maufacturers do not have a set way to measure the response time of an LCD product that they make, and as such the way these measurments are made vary grately. this means that a 5ms from samsung, may well be the equiv of a 16ms from LG electronics ect ect.

its a scam because theres only so far you can go before the eyes see no further improvement. usually a good quality 16ms screen is more than enough (for example the Sharp LL-191A-B 19" TFT is measured at 16ms refresh rate but has a colour depth that far outstrips other monitors in its class with greater refresh rates.)

at the end of the day, its more of a sales gimmick aimed at the overzelous gamer rather than a useful application. These monitors cost hundreds of $$/££ the ONLY way to be sure you like it, is to aks the shop to get it out of the box and hook it up to a fast moving complex image like a game. this is what i did with 7 monitors before i chose my TFT. they want the sale so they will not mind. if your ordering online, Research it via google or forums first. do not buy blindly.

And all indications are that OLED will stay in the position it's in for the next 5 years at least.

The biggest OLED they've been able to manufacture in a commercially viable way is something like 3" or 4".

yea i saw that, it was some kind of sony device if i remember right 🙂 OLED just costs a fourtune at present though 🙁

Supposedly, SED monitors will be going mainstream next year. If that's the case, LCD will be obsolete very soon. =)

I haven't been following SED.

Anyone have any good links explaining it, etc? 😕
