Just Signed up for Newsgroups, what do I do now?

I just signed up for whatever Comcast supplies for Newsgroup access, now can someone please tell me how to find out what the BFD about them is? BTW, I'm using Thunderbird if that makes any difference. I've tried searching and I'm just overwhelmed with what looks like a lot of randomness.

Meh, newsgroups are a waste of time...
 
cancel your subscription. newsgroups are monitored by the feds and any downloading will result in a one way ticket to Gitmo.

No you can't say nobody warned you.

You can get lots of porn off of newsgroups, that's what most of these ATOT guys use it for... I just use them to download TV shows.

Well, I couldn't even get it to work last time I tried but I'm gonna try again now that I know what else to try. 2GB isn't much, but I guess it's enough for like 2 movies and some music or a game and some music or whatever.
