I'm new around here and i figure i might as well use my comp to do some good while i'm not using it. Downloaded F@H, put the team number in(198 right?), and just got 2 questions: Does the command line run faster than the Graphical, and and is there anything else i should know?

I don't believe the cli runs faster than the GUI, as long as you don't have the GUI status screen up all the time. That's the only real difference I see is that you have a graphical status screen instead of simply text.

We are also pushing for people to go for the bigger work units if they can, but that is dependant on how good your computer is. I'm only going to have 3 clients running with big work units, but one machine isn't that great so it won't run the big units. What are the stats of your rig?

You should get the bigger WUs by setting on option somewhere in the setup/options/config menue of your client. I'm only using the CLI so I don't really know where to find it but I know it'S there, as some TA folks were talking aout that not too long ago.

Is that a Hyper Threaded Pentium 4? If so, are you running two instances? If you run two at the same time, your score will be higher by about 30% (?) or so, depending on the WU you're crunching.

The GUI is 1 or 2% slower than the CLI due to overhead of the graphical interface. For starting out, the GUI is fine; on the other hand, I'd recommend the CLI if you have a Windows NT, 2000, or XP system which is used in a multi-user fashion (so it's sitting at the login screen for a sizeable amount of time). Then you can run the CLI as a "service" which means that it will run regardless of whether someone's logged in or not, and it will be invisible (harder for the kids - or parents, or other relation, depending on your situation - to shut down). Installing the CLI as a service requires administrator privileges, and also since it is invisible, we generally recommend a program called F@H LogStats (linked in the other thread, IIRC) so you can keep an eye on that client, as well as any others you have on the same LAN. I'm quite willing to provide more details if you'd like to know.

If you are just running the one machine, its probably easier if you use one of the TeAm SetiQueues, or just use something like SETIDriver

Running F@H and Seti on a HT Intel CPU works pretty good!

I think they use different resources of the CPU, so you get better times than if you ran two of the same client.
