Is this for reals? It seems poco o'er the top. Even if injecting drugs is the root cause it could just as well be the result of any relatively minor wound being neglected, exposed to filth, and picked at, &c.

It could be argued that the individual would otherwise have to be insane if not heavily addicted anyway in order to be so neglectful and in any case it cannot be common so are drugs or even injecting them really the problem?

Strep infections sucks. Too bad no one taught them to use clean needles and alcohol wipes. Well, at least they won't have to worry that it's MRSA. Then they'll be really screwed.

.. hmm google says its a quote from Bill Hicks. However, I've never heard him/read him saying it, so it has been used somewhere else. I think I've seen it here on this forum too, in another thread about drugs.

It's Bill Hicks. The audio clip has been used in a number of different things, but the most notable would probably be at the beginning of a song on one of Tool's albums (can't remember which one). That's probably where you heard it though.

Strep can be just as bad if not worse. It doesn't have the resistances, but if an infection is advanced it might not matter.
