Yep. I saw it last night. I promise I wont give anything away, but I will say it's definately better than the first one. I honestly liked X-men the movie, but felt it was just a little bit wishy washy and bland for a true comic fan. This time, they really went out of their way to show mutants doing what they do best, showin off their powers.
Nightcrawler was played wonderfully. In fact, the first 10 min was extremely wicked. I believe he was played by the same guy that played Toad in the last flick and Darth Maul in Episode 1.
They finally made Wolverine the badass that he should be. He fought more like a trained combatant (like in the comics) than just a pure street brawler with claws (like in the first movie). People were cheering him along. It was still a bit clumsy, but good.
They left it WAY wide open for sequel. In fact, if you are an X-men comic fan, you pick up half way through the flick what is going to happen at the end and what way they are going. It kinda pissed me off that they were going to screw with the comic storylines that much to bring the coolness in, but I forgave them. They really made the transition smooth and tried to come up with their own explination. Not to mention, the action involved damn cool too.
Overall, I would see it again and will be waiting for the DVD to purchase. I really like the direction superhero movies are taking recently. They are not doing it with a "Hey, it's superman! Ain't that cool!" style anymore. It's really showing depth and staying as true to the comic within reason. Sure, there are sme glaring problems if you are a purist, but what franchise out there isn't butchered by hollywood?
Hey, I think I gave my opinion without giving away one plot detail. Took alot of effort, but I hope this psyches some of you out there into going to see it. Definately a good start to the summer season. Next up, Matrix!
