Wow, probably one of the best 'Nam movies I've seen, and it didn't even take place in 'Nam! I guess this was Colin Farrel's breakout role I'd have to agree it was a performance to get noticed by. Sure there were a lot of similarities to Full Metal Jacket and I think that might have turned off audiences and critics, but this 'Tigerland' is still worthy in its own right. Very edgy.

EDIT: sorry about the no post...

I bought that DVD about year ago and I agree with you. It is a good movie and I was surprised that I've never even heard of the movie
until buying the DVD.

Yeah and another thing, it was kind of interesting seeing this movie on the same day as nationwide protests were held against a war in Iraq. Makes me think about how many soldiers there are dreading these two words: Urban Combat. Its interesting to see what effect this fear and dread would have on military morale..

Hehe, I started a thread couple of years ago right after watching this movie, and I know I've read at least couple of more threads on this. It was a great movie considering how long it took them to shoot everything. Checkout the behind the scenes stuff in the DVD, it?s pretty interesting.

this is a good one to hold in reserve - nobody's seen it, so you can surprise people with it.

colin farrell's pretty cool - he was decent in Hart's War & the not-nearly-as-bad-as-I-expected American Outlaws

I saw this on cable last week and loved it. I usually don't like watching war movies. Saving Private Ryan bored me to death when I saw it at the theatre. I turned to the channel maybe 1/4 into the movie. I had no idea what movie it was, none of the actors looked familiar, I even wondered if this was Band of Brothers since I had never seen it before. Nevertheless, I was brought up to speed pretty fast because the performances and story line were great. Within 7 minutes, I actually cared about the characters....this is surprising since I'm rather cold-hearted. ;)

I didn't recognize Colin Farrell with the short haircut. He physically looks a lot different from what he looked like in Minority Report. He also did a great american/texan accent. I can't believe he's an Irishman.

Comparing it to full metal jacket...might have to pick this up.

All time fave war movies are "full metal jacket" and "hamburger hill"

The Tigerland isn't action movie like "Full metal jacket" and "Hamburger hill" nor
does the actions takes in foreign countries. This movie is about focusing on people's
psychology and interactions of fellow soldiers during intensive combat training
prior to heading out to Vietnam. It is a very good movie but much different type
of movie then "Full metal jacket" and "Hamburger hill".

Nevertheless, if you like military movies, I would highly recommended.:)
