Just saw The Ninth Gate

Overall, it was pretty decent flick. I assume he entered the Ninth Gate at the very end, but can someone explain the role of "The Girl" that always seemed to be bailing Johnny Depp out of trouble? Was She the Devil, or am I totally off base here?

I thought it was so-so. It got a little wierd towards the end. I assume the girl was the devil or some other denizen from Hell. Why else would there be flames in the background when they were getting jiggy with it.

One of my buddies raved about it, so I watched. And cried.

Worst movie ever. Well, maybe not ever, but it's pretty bad. The only funny part was when the guy lit himself on fire and then realized he wasn't invincible...I still chuckle at that.

I love that movie. It's weird and kinda unpredictable which is pretty rare for a movie these days. Good flick.

I liked it. I figured the girl was a demon of some sort whose goal it was to bring Depp to Hell.

Interesting premise, that Hell could be some actual physical place, and that there is means to "get there from here" without having to die. I also remember some other movie I watched when I was a kid, where they had computers translating writing on some artifact, and they started displaying some highly advanced mathematics (looked like differential equations and integrals and whatnot on the screen), and as this process went on, weird supernatural stuff started happening.

OK movie based on a great book. Read El Club Dumas by Arturo Perez Reverte. This is the book the movie was based on. They scrapped/combined an entire plotline of the book for the movie. The book is much, much better. That said, Polanski had the feel of the book down pat, awesome sets and locations, and a great cast, but the writing was poor at times, and the suspense just wasn't there when it should have been building.

I think the girl from the 9th gate was the devil or an agent, because she chose him to to be the one to have his name put in the book of the dead.

BTW I got it in the mail from best buy yesterday, sweet price for the 2 pack.
